Eli stood outside physics class waiting on his best friend to come out. For the most part, the other students ignored him, but some made fun of him by calling him a freak and a loser. When he saw Demetri, they immediately began walking side by side down the corridor.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing." Eli mumbled.
"Worried about Phoebe?"
"Yes...I mean. No."
"I feel bad for nothing helping her or Miguel, but at the same time, what could have we done?"
"Nothing."
"Exactly, my friend. I kinda told Phoebe that we'd apologise to him." Demetri patted his back.
"Yeah we should."
"We need to find him first."
The scarred boy thought for a moment, "We have a library period with him and Phoebe too, I believe."
"Great!" Demetri smiled, "We'll apologise then and she can witness it for herself. What was dancing with her like?"
"It was good. Really good. Very fun. She tried to kiss me last night." He admitted.
"Tried?"
"Yeah, I couldn't do it. I chickened out."
Demetri stopped walking. "You like her more than a friend, don't you?" He knew from the dance that Phoebe liked Eli. He felt protective of her in a way. It was probably the fact that blood was thicker than water.
Eli met his eyes, knowing that she was his best friend's cousin. "Yeah, I do. But it won't happen now. I completely blew it. I've lost my chance."
"Well, if you like her and she likes you, I doubt it."
"I don't if she likes me now. Phoebe's great, Demetri, but I'm a freak, a loser. Why would she want to date me? Why would any girl want to date me?" The boys entered the main bigger space with vending machines, lockers and a black stairwell.
"That's the question. We have to play the long game to get girlfriend. I don't think we'll get one until after college."
"I'm going to be forever alone. I might as well face the facts. No girl is ever going to want to date me." Eli muttered in dispair, remembering the conversation he had with his mother.

The blonde girl sauntered down the corridor with her bag hanging off one shoulder. She opened her locker and shoved a few books into it, before closing it and walking away.
Entering the main hallway, she looked up noticing Aisha strolling down the stairs in the direction that she was headed. The girl had her head down and her books pressed tightly to her chest. She was trying to make herself become invisible and ignore the taunts and name calling from other students thanks to Yasmine's social media post from the night before.
Other students walked by her, making loud pig noises to Aisha and laughing at her, "I think she's gonna cry."
"Sooey!" Another shouted and snorted.
Phoebe approached Aisha, while she also stood at her locker putting books in, "Hey. How are you feeling?"
"I've gone viral. How do you think I am?" Aisha snapped.
"Cheeto pig!" A girl jeered at her.
"That was a really shitty thing for Yasmine to do. I'm Phoebe by the way."
"Aisha."
"Look, they're mean, but they have short memories. They'll forget when the next viral thing pops up in their phones. Though, that's not an excuse to behave like that." Out of the corner of her eye, Phoebe noticed Eli and Demetri walk by the vending machines at the other side of the hallway talking to each other.
