chapter forty-two: “second chance.”

(n/a: cry.)

THE BRUNETTE turned around to see his wife, holding unto him for dear life. Instead of meeting the cold gaze and scrunched facade, he saw a rather tearful-looking (Name) in front of him. The same way when she revealed who she was—the fragile and helpless Princess...

He stood up from his seat and wiped the cascading tears, "What's wrong?" He asked. He can sense she was biting the urge to yell at him, "(Name). (Name), what happened to you?" He continued, shaking her lightly.

She then pointed at him, "You... YOU! YOU FOOLISH BASTARD!" She angrily accused, making him startled by the sudden name. "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME SHE LIKES ME AND NOT YOU? THAT SHE WASN'T INTO YOU?!" She continued, itching to burn him.

Her yells were muffled by the fight starting to emerge above the water, where the Qixing, adepti, and the Traveler are defending the land of Liyue from the unsealed god of the Seas. She didn't mind it for her greatest concern is her prideful husband, angry at him this time. Unlike before she was angry because he has a “mistress”, but now she's angry at him for not telling her the truth...

     "(Name), calm down—"

A spiky thorn appeared near his neck, "HOW CAN I CALM DOWN?! HOW?!" She asked. "IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOUR EGO FOR GATEKEEPING WHAT'S YOURS, THEN SHE'S STILL ALIVE!"

"Guizhong?" Zhongli asked, but (Name) just continued punching his chest. "Did Guizhong tell you she adores you instead of me?"

"So what if she did?! It's not like you care!" His wife spat back. "She even defied the rules of the afterlife realm just to talk to me and tell me everything was just a lie! My grandmother used my jealousy as an advantage, so we can divorce! And guess what? Guizhong tried to fix it, but failed!" She added sarcastically.

     "(Name), please breathe. Don't—"

"SHUT! I won't STOP UNTIL I TELL YOU EVERYTHING!" (Name) snapped at him, making him shut his mouth from her declamation. "She went to my hometown just to talk to me and my grandmother got mad, so she cursed her to die. If you just... IF YOU JUST TOLD ME SHE DOESN'T LIKE YOU, THEN I COULD'VE PREVENTED THAT!"

It was Zhongli's turn to almost break his serious facade, covering his mouth. He didn't expect the situation between them to be that deep. Was he too egoistic he hid the fact his friend was trying to steal his wife? True, he could've told her but then again as his species are possessive and if (Name) was willing to share (if he told her), she might've not liked the consequences...
