A week later, Serge and Roger rolled into town. "It took us long enough. She probably bolted by now." Serge complained as they walked into the motel lobby.
"Stop complaining, you guys let that bitch Helga warn her. And you know my piece of shit car wasn't going to make that trip in one go." Roger stood at the counter as Janine looked between them.
"Can I help you?" She asked them.
"Yes, one room, two beds." Roger said, giving her his card and ID.
"You couldn't splurge for something better than this dump?" Serge said, looking around catching Janine's stare. "No offence."
"None taken." She said as she took down Roger's info staring at the ID. Deborah had called her days ago to warn her.
Roger took out a picture and put it on the counter. "Have you seen this girl?"
"No, sorry."
"Are you sure? You barely looked." Roger said, pushing the picture on her face.
She grabbed the picture, looked at it and put it back on the counter. "Not the type of clientele we have here. So, no, I haven't seen her. There's a B&B outside of town, you might check there. Here are your keys. How many days may I put you down for?"
"Hopefully just two. I don't want to stay here longer than I should." Roger said, grabbing the keys and walking out followed by Serge.
"She knows her. I could tell." Serge said as he looked through the window and saw Janine staring at them.
"Oh, I know. And if she's still here they are going to be hiding her. But I'm going to find her."
Janine grabbed the phone as soon as they were out of sight and called Shawn's cabin. "Hello?" Deborah answered.
"Hey, Deborah. Is Janine from down at the motel."
"Are they here?" She said as a lump formed on her throat.
"Two guys. One of them is Roger Thompson. The other one was complaining a lot. Wearing a wife beater and baggy pants."
"Yeah, I know who they are. Did they say anything?"
"He showed me a picture of you and asked if I had seen you. I told him no, but I don't think they were too convinced."
"Did they say how long they were staying?"
"He said probably two days. Be careful."
"I will, and thank you again, Janine." Deborah hung up and called the diner.
"Hello?" Shawn quickly answered.
"Hey, it's me."
"Hey, beautiful. What can I do for you?" He said smiling.
"They are here."
The smile erased from his face and was substituted by a frown. "Where?"
"At the motel. Janine just called me. They are showing my picture around. Be ready to see them over there. It's my brother and my ex."
"I'll be on the lookout. Don't leave the cabin. Keep all the doors and windows locked. I'll be there as soon as possible." He said hanging up.
"Something wrong, boss?" Carl asked.
"Remember those bad guys I said were after Deborah? Well, they are in town. They are showing Deborah's picture around and asking questions. Don't tell them you know where she's at. Just go with the story I gave you."
"Sure will."
Shawn looked around the diner. There were a lot of people. He couldn't just close. He wanted to go and be with Deborah. She must be so scared. The diner door opened and Nelson walked in. "Great." Shawn whispered. The only person other than his mom he knew would not lie about Deborah, but at least he didn't know where she was. "What can I do for you, Nelson?" He asked him as he reached the counter and took a seat.
"Cup of coffee. Hey, where's that pretty spicy waitress you had? Haven't seen her in a few days."
"She quit and left town."
"Really? I thought I could tame that one. I liked her."
