Shawn made the trip in three days. He parked his car outside the address Helga gave him. It was still early. He sat and waited. At exactly three o ' clock, a sketchy guy with a cap covering his face, walked out of the apartment and got in a truck. Shawn waited until the truck was out of sight before getting out. He climbed the stairs and tried the door. Locked. He looked it around and saw a big rock on the side. He picked it up and smashed the glass on the door. He carefully picked the glass out and reached inside to unlock the door.
He slowly walked inside. He looked around the living room and the kitchen. Everything was quiet. Then he heard it, the rattling of chains. "Is someone there?" A scared voice came from the room. He quickly made it to the room and opened the door. Deborah looked at him and ran towards him, wrapping her arms around his neck knocking him down. "Shawn! You came!"
He looked at her confused as he tried to get up. He stood up and rubbed the back of his head as pain ran through it from when she knocked him down. "Are you Deborah?" He asked her, helping her get up.
She was confused. "What do you mean? It's me! Please take me out of here." She said as she pulled at her chain.
"I'm sorry. I was attacked a couple months ago and lost some memories. I don't remember you. But I am here to take you out of here. Apparently I was taking care of you before. Do you know if the keys are here?" He said, looking around the room.
She started crying. "You don't remember me? How are you here then?"
"Your friend Helga called me and gave me the address, told me to take you out of here. So, the keys?"
"I think he keeps a copy in the kitchen drawer."
"Okay, I'll be back." He said as she slumped to the floor and continued crying. He looked through the drawers and found five different keychains filled with keys. He went back to the room and showed them to her. He kneeled next to her and started trying every key.
"We were so happy together." She said. "You don't remember anything at all?"
He raised his eyes and looked into hers. "I'm sorry. Carl, my cook, told me about you. But there's nothing there. I'm really sorry. But I did see you in my dreams a few nights ago. You were screaming and covered in blood." He took her arms and looked at the bruises then slowly grabbed her chin and looked at the damage. "Why would he do that to you?"
"I'm just his piggy bank. And I fight back. I wanted to see you again one more time, I didn't want to give up. If I would've known you didn't remember me, I would've given up a long time ago and avoided all this." She placed her hands on her face and wept.
He lowered her hands. "No one deserves this. I'm here to save you." He tried one more key and got it unlocked.
She quickly got up and ran to the closet and put on some jeans and changed shirts. "Let's go!" They ran out of the apartment and got in the car.
"Now what?" He asked as he turned on the car.
"Take me to the police station."
"Are you sure? Your friend said that they are friends with the police."
"I know one they are not friends with, and he's the captain."
Shawn drove her to the police station and walked in with her. "Can I help you?" She was asked at the front.
"I need to speak with Captain Williams. Tell him it is Deborah Thompson and it's urgent. Please."
"Okay, just take a seat." They told her.
She and Shawn sat down. Ten minutes later, Captain Williams walked out. "Deborah!" He said looking at her. "Come to my office." In the office, he motioned them to sit down. "What happened to you? Charles came and told me you supposedly had taken a spill down the stairs, but you don't look anything like he said. You didn't fall, did you?"
Shawn grabbed her hand and squeezed it. She took a deep breath before speaking. "It's a long story, Captain."
"And I'm ready for it."
"I ran away from home some months ago, before my father got sick. My ex boyfriend had raped me and I was scared, so I went over to my friend and she gave me some money that belong to her husband and I went to my mother's hometown. I was there for a few months until Roger found me. He forced me at gunpoint to leave with him, and told me my friend's husband was waiting to file charges against me for stealing his money. He told me that to avoid jail time and embarrassing my father I had to marry my ex. So I did. When we got back, that's when my father died and my ex took me with him and the beatings and rape started. I go through this everyday. He kept me chained in the room."
"I can't believe this. Who did this?"
"Roger and my ex, Serge Putt."
"How did you get out?"
"Her friend called me and gave me the address to get her out." Shawn said.
"And you are?"
"He's my friend." Deborah said quickly. "We worked together at my mother's hometown."
"Okay, do you have anywhere to stay? You can't obviously go back to that place." The Captain asked.
"My father told me before he died that I have family left at my mother's hometown. But, I don't know how to get there or funds to do so." She said as tears formed in her eyes.
"I can take her if that's okay. I'll leave you my phone number so you can contact her." Shawn said writing down his information and handing it to the Captain.
The Captain took the piece of paper and looked at Deborah. "Would you be okay? I want you as far away from here as possible."
"Sure. I'll be okay. But they might go looking for me there again."
"I'm going to try my best to get them beforehand. That's settled. You two should leave."
They got up, she hugged him and they left. As they walked out, a police officer looked at her and grabbed his phone. "Hey."
"Yeah?" Serge asked.
"Your wife just walked out of the station with some guy. She was in the Captain's office."
"That bitch! Thank you." Serge slammed the phone and called Roger.
"That mothetfucker came and took her." Serge said. "She just left the police station. She was speaking to the Captain. We are in deep shit."
"Get out of the bar, don't go to the apartment. We need to get out of town. Meet me at the hideout. Bye."
