Shawn arrived at the hospital as Camila walked out with July. July lowered her gaze. "Shawn, I am so embarrassed." Camila said.
"There's no need, Camila. We were all fooled."
"You should've come to us from the beginning."
"It was too late. When I found out about the deceit, was the day she had supposedly tried to kill herself. And you and Anthony already had a bad impression of me, which I couldn't blame you."
"I'm so sorry about everything. And about your mother. I don't understand how July could get involved with her like that. July, say something!" She nudged July, who had stayed quiet the whole time.
"I'm sorry." She whispered.
"That's all you have to say?" Camila asked furiously.
"Please take good care of Andrew while I am gone."
"Where are you going?" Shawn asked curiously.
"She has to pay for the part she played in all of this. I'm taking her down to the police station. John is waiting for her. You can always count on us to help you with Andrew, I hope you know that, don't hesitate to ask. And Anthony said that if you're still interested, the position in his company is still open for you."
"Thank you for the offer to help with Andrew. But about the company, I'm going to have to decline. I have my diner, that's my life. I'll see you."
"Shawn." July called as he walked by. He turned around and looked at her. "Please be happy."
"Oh, I intend to." He said and walked into the building.
Shawn went into his father's room. He was sitting up reading the newspaper. "Hey, son." Michael said as Shawn went and kissed his cheek.
"How are you, dad?"
"Well, today is one of those days that is not as bad as the others. I've been able to keep my food down and I've been able to read the newspaper without getting too tired. How are things with you? Last I heard July was here, she lost the baby. Sorry to hear that."
"About that, there was actually no baby. It was all a lie, everything. She never tried to kill herself. It was all to tie me down."
"You were married, what more tying down she needed?" Michael laughed.
"Mom and July deceived me into getting married, dad. I had broken up with July years ago before I lost my memory, and they took advantage of that and had me get married."
"I know. I wanted to say something about that, but your mother told me to stay out of it. That before you lost your memory you had changed your mind about marrying as soon as you found out the DNA test for Andrew."
"That kept me away from the woman I actually love and want to be with."
"The famous waitress your mother despises."
"Dad, I need to tell you something about mom."
"What did she do now?"
"She kidnapped Deborah with Nelson's help. She paid Nelson eighteen years ago to rape Deborah's mother. And she was paying your doctor to lie to me about July, and I wonder what else. She's in jail. She's going to be there for a while."
Michael sighed and looked at his son. "Your mother is a difficult woman. There is always karma. No wonder I had a new doctor here today probing, doing a bunch of tests and asking questions. He told me to tell you to go see him. He said it might be good news."
"Yes, I'll go see him. I'll come back before I leave to say goodbye."
"And to tell me the good news?"
"Of course." Shawn left the room and headed to the doctor's office. He knocked on the door and it flew open.
"Shawn, good. I was about to leave. Come in." The doctor said opening the door for him and motioning for him to take a seat before walking behind his desk and sitting down. "I'm going to be quick, won't take much of your time."
"Alright, what's going on?"
"I always wondered why Dr Thomas didn't want help from anyone. Specially after so many years he couldn't find what was wrong with your father. So as soon as you gave me the thumbs up I started running tests."
"And what did you find?"
"Someone has been poisoning your father to keep him sick and they are lucky they haven't killed him yet."
"What? Is he going to be okay?"
"Yes, he will get better and he will finally leave this hospital. He'll be back to his old self."
"Really?"
"Yes, I wanted to tell you first. Didn't know how you wanted to tell him about being poisoned. I'm sorry to tell you it was between Dr Thomas and your mother. I've already notified the authorities."
"Thank you so much." Shawn shook his hand and left to tell his father everything.
Later that night, he arrived at Gina's house. Gina opened the door and let him in. "She's up in Marilyn's room resting. First room to the left."
"Thank you." He said climbing up the stairs two at a time. He knocked before entering. Deborah laid in the bed fast asleep. He kneeled next to her and caressed her cheek. She stirred and slowly opened her eyes. "Hi." He said.
"Hey, how did everything go?" She said sitting up. He sat up next to her.
"I saw July on the way in."
"And?"
"She was on the way to the police station to give herself in. She apologized and asked me to take care of Andrew while she was gone. And she told me to be happy."
Deborah stayed quiet and looked at him. "What about your dad?" She finally asked.
"It turns out, the doctor and my mother were poisoning him. All these years, they could've killed him."
"That's horrible. Why would they do that?" She covered her mouth.
"Apparently to keep him sick. They are going to be in jail for a really long time. How can I bring myself to forgive her after she almost killed my father?"
"I'm having the same dilemma about Nelson, would I ever be able to forgive him for raping my mother and kidnapping me? He is my real father."
"One step at a time, I guess. I'm just glad my father is going to be fine, working back at the diner. Like old times."
"And where does all this leave us?"
"What do you mean?" He took her hand and put it over his heart.
"What about us? We both said some things."
"Things that we didn't mean, Deborah. Now nothing can keep us apart. You finally find your family, you belong somewhere." He grabbed the back of her neck and kissed her. "I love you."
"I love you too!"
