Two days later, Gina walked into the diner and sat at her usual table. Shawn served her a cup of coffee and handed it to Deborah. She was making her way to the table, when she changed her mind. She took the coffee back. "What are you doing?" Shawn asked her curiously.
"Give me a glass of water. I just want to see something."
Shawn handed her the glass of water shaking his head and watched her approach Gina. As Deborah placed the glass of water on the table she waited. Gina reached for the glass thinking it was the cup of coffee. She looked at the glass and looked up at Deborah scaring her. She ripped off her veil. "You! It can't be." Gina cried. She stood up and ran out of the diner.
Deborah turned around wide eyed and looked at Shawn. "I wonder what that was about." She said.
"You made her talk! That's unbelievable."'
"It was like she recognized me from somewhere."
"Was that Gina talking?" Carl asked.
"Yes, Deborah made her talk before she ran out of here."
"Amazing, well, I'm off to make those deposits for you and then take my break."
"Okay, Carl. See you later." Shawn said as he picked the glass of water from the table and wiped it. "What are you going to do on your break?"
"Just hang out here. Don't want to be out and about and cross paths with your wife or mother."
"Smart." He said laughing. "I wouldn't even want that myself." He said as she went to the restroom. He got behind the counter, when the door opened. "Sorry, we are closed." He said looking at the two men that had just stepped into the diner.
"You don't remember us?" Roger asked.
"I'm sorry. I've never seen you before."
Roger took the gun out and pointed it at Shawn's head. "Roger!" Deborah said as she came out of the restroom.
"There she is, hey little sis."
"This is your brother?" Shawn asked, raising his arms.
"How come he doesn't remember us?" Serge asked.
"When you guys assaulted him, he lost over four years of his life in memories." She said as tears formed in her eyes. "Roger, please put the gun down."
"You got away, you were bad. You left your husband. Do you know how bad that looks?"
"They are looking for both of you." Shawn said. "What are you going to accomplish taking her back?"
"Oh, we are not taking her back. We are here to make her pay for everything she did." Roger looked at her without moving the gun.
"She didn't do anything. You guys had her chained in a room, she was getting beat up daily." Serge walked behind the counter and hit Shawn with a pan in the back of his head knocking him out.
"Why did you do that?" Roger asked furiously.
"He was talking too much. Now, take her and let's get out of here, Roger."
"Shawn, I forgot the deposit slip." Carl said coming in from the back door.
Roger lifted the gun again and shot Carl on the chest. "No!" Deborah cried.
"What's wrong with you, Roger? Why are you killing people? Innocent too!" Serge started pacing the diner. "That's it, there's no escaping this one. The cops are going to get us. We are going to jail!"
Roger raised his gun again and shot Serge in the head. Deborah jumped and tried to run away. He grabbed her arm tight. "He talked too much, he was driving me insane. Now, where were we?"
"Roger, what has gotten into you? You're killing people." She whispered.
"You're next. But not right now. I might still have some use for you." He started walking towards the door when it flew open and John and another police officer walked in pointing their guns at him.
"Drop your weapon and let her go." John said.
Roger put the gun on Deborah's temple. "I'll kill her. I don't care."
"What do you want?" John asked.
"For you to lower your guns and let us pass."
"We can't do that. You have to let her go."
Deborah closed her eyes as she felt the pressure of the gun on her head. There was sudden movement around her and she felt Roger's hold loosen up as he fell to the floor. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Shawn standing behind her with a pan in his hand. He tossed the pan and grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her to him as he deeply kissed her. She returned the kiss, but suddenly stopped it and pushed him away. "We can't, Shawn."
"Deborah, I remember. I remember everything." He said, pulling her back to the kiss.
"Excuse me, but we need to get you checked." John said. "Your head is bleeding."
The officer checked Serge's vitals and shook his head, then checked Carl's. "I have a pulse here!" He said as John handcuffed Roger and called the ambulance.
Shawn held Deborah tight. "It's over now. You don't have to hide anymore. I got you." He said as he kissed her forehead.
