16. Secret crush

Shortly after everyone was finished their assigned chore and most tents where ready they gathered around the big fire and started grilling food and chatting about their lives. Hope noticed Josie sitting by herself and decided to take the chance now that she was finally alone. She brought a blanket along with her since the girl looked cold and wrapped it around her shoulders before sitting down.

"Thanks, prince charming. Very much appreciated." Josie said with flirtatious eyes.

"At your service, anytime.." Hope's blue eyes momentarily found Josie's but she quickly looked back at the fire, afraid to give away her feelings, whatever they were at that point.

"So camping out here is not that bad after all. It's so peaceful and beautiful. Look at the sky."

Hope looked up at the sky, gazing at the small shiny stars that formed a beautiful sight and then back at Josie, smiling at her shyly.

"See I told you that you should come. I know the idea of walking for hours on end sounds horrifying but actually you learn a lot by challenging yourself and your limits. Plus there isn't anything more peaceful than getting away from city life itself."

"So do you do this every summer?"

"Yeah ever since I was old enough to join. Why?"

"Because you suit it. I mean I feel safer having you and your defence skills around."

"Oh. Come on. You make it sound like I have superpowers."

Hope reached out and bumped Josie's shoulder with her own and the other girl laughed loudly, drawings her sister's attention.

"You might just do, Hope Mikaelson."

"What are you two bickering about?" Lizzie interrupted.

"And then a wild bear appears.." Hope whispered under her breath with a fake laugh.

"I am not a wild bear, but trust me I can still do some damage Mikaelson."

"I have a spear just in case." Hope responded confidently.

"Oh come on guys, quit it. By the way how's your leg holding up?"

"Fine, although Sebastian carried me on his back for half of the way. I can't complain."

"Jesus I feel sorry for him.."

"What are you implying Mikaelson?"

Josie rolled her eyes at the uncontrollable bickering of the two and placed her hand over Hope's mouth who was glaring at her sister.

"Nothing, she..she was just about to go and get us something to eat. Right, Hope? Please?"

"Mhm." Hope involuntary stood up and walked towards the boys who were cooking the food.

"She's a pain in the ass."

"Who?" Rafael looked over at the auburn who just approached and was looking at the food as if she was famished.

"Elizabeth. Josie's sister.."

"I know what's gonna make ya feel better." Rafael extended a chicken thigh out and Hope reached up sinking her teeth in the tender meat and taking a big bite.

"That was amazing. You're really good at grilling..."

"You're just trying to flatter me to get more food, Mikaelson. I know you."

"Shut up and give me another one."

Rafael laughed at the hungry girl and gave her a plate of chicken thighs with some dipping sauce which Hope took with a wink and walked back to the twins to share.

"Peace offering coming through."

The girls dived in the chicken hungrily feeling extremely content to eat some proper food after so many hours. Josie took the last piece after a while and held it up to Hope's mouth who was about to reach up and take a bite when she removed it and took a bite herself. Lizzie was watching them with a smile, trying to deny the fact that Josie looked her most happy self when Hope was around.

"Just kidding."

"Is this the thank you I get?"

Just then Penelope approached them, noticing how Josie and Hope had been messing with each other all night. And the way Hope was throwing herself at her was far from innocent.

"Sorry to interrupt girls, could I speak to Jo for a moment?"

"If you have something to say you can say it in front of us." Lizzie said boldly.

"Excuse my sister, she's always like that. Sure we can go somewhere and talk."

Josie stood up and looked back at Hope who was looking at the fire now pretending she was unbothered by Penelope's presence. The girls walked together and after exchanging small chatter Penelope went for a kiss but found Josie pulling back.

"What's wrong? I thought you.."

"No, I do. I do like you Penelope."

"Yet you've been spending most of your time with her."

Penelope's eyes pointed back to Hope who was teasing Josie's sister now.

"Yeah because we are friends and roommates and all..so it's inevitable. But it doesn't mean anything."

"It's fine you don't owe an explanation. Anyway what I meant to ask you was, do you want to sleep in my tent tonight?"

"Wow, that's.. umm bold."

"I don't mean it in a way that's...sexual. We could just sleep together that's all."

"I would..love to. But my sister has been looking forward to spending time with me and I promised we'd share a tent. She will go mental if I.."

"I get it. It's always your sister isn't it? I guess I'll try again tomorrow."

"Penelope wait.."

Penelope walked off and Josie sighed in defeat. She didn't know where her heart belonged, and why it was so hard to reject and hurt someone's feelings like that. When she looked back she saw her friends having chugging competitions and playing games. As expected Hope was competing against the guys and drawing all attention on her. She approached them and Hope went out of her way to bring Josie around to the group by throwing her arm around her shoulder.

"So what do you guys say about a round of truth or dare?" Caleb suggested.

"Uh, no not this stupid game again." Josie scrunched up her face and Hope laughed.

"Why is this game still a thing anyway?"

"Because we are teenagers? Duh."

Hope poked Landon's forehead who was standing next to her, while keeping Josie under her arm.

"I don't care what y'all think, this game is fun and it can make things happen and this trip needs to become interesting."

Just then Penelope stepped between them and raised her hand.

"Well, I have a good one. And this one's for Hope."

Everyone looked at Penelope's sudden appearance and Hope out of everyone glared at her, thinking she was about to stir an argument.

"This is not scary at all. Anyway, if I had to chose I'd chose truth." An innocent and curious Hope said.

"Tell us Mikaelson. Is it true that you fucked Landon's best friend?? Hm?"

"What the.." Landon's jaw dropped and everyone looked at Hope who was getting nervous.
