Eventually after another tiresome hike the campers reached the final destination. Everyone gathered at the meeting point and as far as tradition goes, Jed their leader announced the begining of this year's games which declared the winner who would have the honour to raise this year's flag up in the air and when he was done speaking everyone cheered happily.
After that they started getting on with their assigned chores and setting up shelter for the night, and then a short rest followed before the competition started.
Hope was strangely sitting by herself away from the cheery crowd, drinking a beer and watching Penelope flirt with Josie the whole night. Landon joined her, and attempted to talk to the distracted girl.
"I was totally unprepared for this so called competition they expect us to do. Is it necessary to take part?"
"Not really. Unless you're up for a real challenge, then you should probably stay out of it." Hope said while sipping her drink.
"Are you taking part in it?"
"Yeah, of course I am. And I don't take losing lightly."
"Hope Mikaelson, you already are a winner in my book." Landon said with a shy smile.
"What did I win?"
"Would I sound too hopelessly romantic to say, you've won my heart?"
Hope chuckled lightly and looked away from Landon's eyes, his compliment was far too obvious and she thought she thought she didn't deserve it.
"I'm afraid to say your heart is not in safe hands, Landon. Now I have to go and get ready. This thing is about to start soon."
"Hope-- wait.." Landon took a hold of the girl's hand and held it up towards his lips, kissing it softly while looking into her blue eyes. "I don't care whether it's in safe hands or not, I'm willing to take that risk..also, good luck out there. You're going to kick some ass."
"Thanks, Landon..you're too sweet. Now I really have to go..but..meet me tonight at my tent.."
Hope went into her tent and quickly changed into a more comfortable outfit. Then she joined the participants who were not more than thirty this year and Jed appeared through the crowd, announcing their first mission.
"Right everyone listen up! The Legacies games are about to begin. As our long tradition goes, when the founders of this camp discovered this very spot they had an argument about who's going to put up our signature flag. To decide they thought about a series of games which would determine the winner and each year the campers participate in this tradition to honour our Legacy.
The first game is called "Catch" and you'll have three minutes with an opponent of your choice to battle it out and whoever has ownership of the ball by the end of the time will be the winner. You're not allowed to harm your opponent in any way but you can initiate physical contact to steal the ball away. You're thirty which means we have enough players for 15 pairs and half of you will be eliminated. Choose your partners wisely."
