Landon was curled up on his side of the tent, trying to sleep when Rafael entered at a random point of the night trying to settle next to Landon quietly in hopes he wouldn't wake him up and start asking questions.
"Late night adventures?"
"Uhm, I was just hanging out with some of the guys.."
"I thought everyone was asleep by now."
"I thought you were asleep too, Landon."
"Well, I'm not."
"Well, you should. We have a long day tomorrow. Good night."
"Whatever."
Rafael rolled his eyes and turned his back on Landon, closing his eyes and trying to fall asleep but it was hard to stop thinking about today's events and how consumed he was by the auburn and her tempting body.
A few hours went by and all the campers were asleep peacefully so no one noticed the big wave of black smoke forming in the air. Some of them could smell it but didn't think much of it. The first to wake up was Hope who rubbed her eyes open and started thinking something seemed wrong, the smell was too strong and if the fire was put out properly it shouldn't be like that. It didn't take her long to realize that the last people hanging by the fire did not put it out properly and the fire was spreading towards the tents. In fact one of the tents was already burning slightly, the one in which the twins were sleeping.
"Shit..that is not good. We need some help over here!! Guys!! Help!!"
Hope shouted and prayed that people would wake up when hearing her cry of help but she decided to act on her own and looked through her stuff finding a butterfly knife. She ran towards the girl's tent and pierced the knife at the back of it riping it open since the fire was located at the front entrance which meant they would be trapped inside. A few of the campers woke up to see what the commotion was about and some of them started screaming and trying to put out the fire with water, as their first instinct kicked in.
"Guys wake up! Come on! We need to get you out of here."
"H-Hope? What's going on.."
Josie woke up to find their tent teared apart and Hope holding a knife, she couldn't possibly put the pieces together but she nudged her sister to wake her up following Hope's advice.
"We need to go now! There is a fire. Your tent is on fire!!"
"Oh my god. Lizzie wake up!! There is a fire!!"
"Come with me Josie."
Hope offered her hand to Josie and then helped pick her sister up whose leg was still injured by the bear which only meant she would slow them down and the three of them walked away from the fire and some of the campers tried to get it under control while others attempted to wake up the rest who were still sleeping.
"How on earth did this even happen??" Lizzie cried out.
"That's what happens when you don't put out a fire properly. You were lucky I woke up the moment I did."
"Fucking hell, this is why I didn't want to come to this camp in the first place!"
"Lizzie calm down, will you? We are safe because of Hope and the fire is under control now. Nobody was hurt anyway, right?"
"Yeah but now we have no place to sleep!"
"That should be the least of your concerns dear sister."
"You can sleep in my tent, I don't mind sharing. Plus I am by myself so there is plenty of space." Hope suggested with one of her sweet smiles, her suggestion seemed to appeal to one of them.
The twins looked at each other and Josie gave the blonde a pleading look, as if she desperately wanted to say yes but let her older sister decide for them.
"Okay, I guess we will. Until we find a better solution about this. And you two, hands off each other. I mean it."
When the fire was out everyone returned to their tents and tried to fall asleep for the remaining hours. The three girls settled in Hope's small tent, with Josie in the middle and Lizzie with Hope on either side of her. Lizzie turned her back to them and was quick to fall asleep from being exhausted but Hope and Josie were facing each other and were both wide awake after the unsettling events.
"So you got your wish after all.."
Hope whispered to Josie with a little smile while scooting a bit closer to her. She couldn't hide the fact that she was happy to lie in such proximity with her.
"What wish?"
"Sleeping with me or whatever.."
"Oh, yeah. That. I guess I say funny things when I'm half asleep don't I?" Josie smiled shyly.
"I don't know, it seemed like you meant it to me. Anyway, how are you feeling?"
"After almost being burned alive? Pretty great, this trip never stops surprising me!"
Hope laughed and once again Josie reminded her that her sister was there sleeping next to them and she was completely against them developing whatever interest they had in each other.
"Shush, Hope!"
"You know, I'd literally do anything to keep you safe Josie..."
"Can I ask you a question, Hope?"
"Yeah, sure. What is it?"
"Why do you care so much about me? I mean you didn't care about Landon when you slept with his best friend. So why me?"
"I..I actually care about Landon, I care enough to know that I'm not good for him. And I know exactly what's going to keep him away from me."
"That didn't answer my original question, Hope."
"Some questions are better left unanswered, Josie."
"You're such a riddle sometimes and I hate that."
"And..I think that's the part where we gotta sleep. Or else you'll be grumpy tomorrow on the hike."
"No, I won't!"
"You already are. And your sister is going to kill me for keeping you awake you know."
"Fine. Goodnight Hope.."
"Goodnight, my little angel."
Josie fell asleep with an ever growing smile on her lips and during the night the auburn pulled the other girl towards her chest in her sleep and Josie instinctively wrapped one arm around Hope's waist, getting in a comfortable position. Listening to Hope's heartbeat while sleeping was starting to become one of her favourite habits.
In the morning the campers woke up and started packing their tents back up, some of them still talking about last night's events. Lizzie interrupted Josie's and Hope's peaceful sleep by her grumpy whining of how uncomfortable sleeping in a tent was.
"Ugh, my back is killing me. I feel like an old lady! First my leg and now this, how can people even enjoy this?"
"What were you saying? I'm not the grumpy one see..." Josie whispered to sleepy Hope who was clearly annoyed with her sister.
"I can tell.."
"Girls, we are about to leave you need to hurry up!"
Landon shouted and the girls quickly gathered their belongings and packed up the tent, agreeing on sharing it during their hike. The group was on the road for three hours before coming across another river, this time there was a massive water fall in front of them that looked incredibly tempting after enduring all the heat and sunshine.
