Death thoughts

Walking through the forest with him feels so safe and peaceful, thinking about the coming event

"Are you scared of dying?" I questioned.

Will only looked up to the sky as the wind gently blew his hair. I watched as it swayed as he searched for the words he wanted to say.
Despite being right next to him, he felt so far away.

" .. I've never been scared of dying, Aurora. My life could've ended any day now, yet I live. Even humored the darker thoughts in my mind." he stated.

This caught me completely off-guard. I... never expected him to have those thoughts, much less admit them.

"But I already determined that such a death was the coward's ending... for me, I mean.
I must either die for something or die naturally.
Death doesn't scare me, it's how I die." he admitted.

"what does death mean to you?" I asked, pushing him on.

"It's about the journey one makes through life, death is the grand finale. Our own story coming to an end. To end it prematurely makes it a tragic end".

He looked at me and then asked "why is it that you asked these questions"

"Do you fear my death?" He looked at me in amusement

I didn't know wether to be worried or amazed that he finds his demise amusing

I shook my head saying "who wouldn't fear at the prospect of their close one dying"

He stopped and looked at me ,his face ever so serious he began saying "I know that you worry about what's to come"

He sighed and continued "but it's something that's inevitable, I have to do this"

I looked at him ,tears threatening to fall I said "then promise me you'll do whatever it takes to come back alive"

He looked at me for a second and then "I promise"

I nodded and hugged him, even though he was never one for hugs he never refused me, I smiled knowing I'm the only one that enjoys this benefit

He taps my back slowly "okay that's enough, let's get to where we're heading"

I skip ahead in joy as he shakes his head with a small smile on his face following after me.
