An explanation as to why I gave Brynleigh 'Alphabet Boy' by Melanie Martinez.

Verse 1:
Always aiming paper airplanes at me when you're around / You build me up like building blocks just so you can bring me down / You can crush my candy can but you'll never catch me cry / If you dangle that diploma and I dead / You don't be suprised

Brynleigh is very goal oriented in the sense that she'd do almost anything to achieve what she wants to achieve. She works really hard for everything and is never ready to give anything up unless she's promised something way better. Throughout the show, it's pretty consistent of her going to extreme measures to get what she wants.

Pre-Chorus:
I know my ABC's / Yet you keep teaching me / I say 'fuck your degree' / Alphabet boy / You think you're smarter than me / With all your bad poetry / Fuck all your ABC's / Alphabet boy

Brynleigh has that type of attitude that she knows more than anyone else, and she's better than everyone else. Even if it's obvious that in the situation, the other person is above her. This might be a coping mechanism of sorts, but it depends on how you look at the situations she went through, especially at a young age.

Chorus:
I'm not a little kid now / Watch me get big now / Spell my name on the fridge now / With all your alphabet toys / You won the spelling bee now / But are you smarter than me now? / You're the prince of the playground / Little alphabet boy

Brynleigh's mom left when she was pretty young, and her dad worked at the oil rig for months on end. So, from a young age, she was kind of just left to fend for herself. I think this really impacted how she saw the world. She saw everything as a challenge or a competition. Having to care for herself from a young age gave her that type of outlook on life.

Verse 2:
Apples aren't aren't always appropriate apologies / Butterscotch and bubblegum drops are bittersweet to me / You call me a child while you keep counting all your coins / But you're not my daddy and I'm not your dolly / And your dictionary's destroyed

Brynleigh took offense to things pretty quickly in the show. She was always ready to combat things, and she was always expecting people to want to hurt her. Brynleigh was very much the type of person to observe every little thing about a person before even thinking about trusting them.

Another day, another song to character explanation.
