“I’m happy to see you again.” Brynleigh smiled fondly at the person across the table from her.
Señora Garcia looked at her, unimpressed, for a second before saying, “Me alegra verte de nuevo.” “Me…ale…gra…ver…te…de…nuevo.” Brynleigh said the words slowly as she wrote them down on the notepad.
“Who are you so happy to see again?” Señora Garcia asked her as she put down her pen.
Brynleigh shook her head without a response before saying, “Last one. You look beautiful.”
Garcia laughed a bit before responding, “¿De verdad?”
“¿’De…verdad’?” Brynleigh asked, wondering how correct her pronunciation was.
“¿Un Latino, o Latina?” Garcia asked with curiosity.
Brynleigh smiled and said, “I have someone in mind. I’ve found myself a Latino boy.”
“Ay, Brynleigh. You have enough dating prospects in your life.” Garcia said, rubbing her forehead.
Brynleigh responded, “I don’t wanna jinx it, but maybe we’ll be good together.”
“You have never found someone you are good with.” Garcia said, worried for the younger girl. “Nunca.”
“¿‘Nunca?’ ‘Nunca’ means never?” Brynleigh asked. Garcia nodded at her.
She continued, “What’s ‘forever’? Like, ‘I wanna be with you forever’?”
“You don’t want to start with maybe ‘I like to take you out for coffee’?” Garcia replied.
“No…c’mon.” Brynleigh started but was cut off, “‘I want to take you to dance, for a sandwich, or raisin bread’?”
“This isn’t casual like that.” Brynleigh said while shaking her head.
Garcia started, “Woah…‘I want to be with you forever’?” She nodded. “‘Quiero estar contigo para siempre’.”
Brynleigh spoke as she wrote it down. “¿‘Quiero…estar…con…con’?” She looked up expectantly.
“Contigo, with you.” Garcia said. “Para siempre.”
“¿‘Siempre’?” Brynleigh asked.
“‘Siempre’.” Garcia nodded. “‘Forever’.”
(Spanish Translations:
Me alegra verte de nuevo = I’m happy to see you again.
¿De verdad? = Really?
¿Un Latino, o Latina? = A Latino, or latina?
Nunca = Never
Quiero estar contigo para siempre. = I want to be with you forever.
Based off of a scene from ‘West Side Story’ because I forced one of my friends to watch it with me recently and was reminded how much I loved it.
Basically, Brynleigh is trying to learn Spanish for Cyrus because I headcanon him as a Latino.
Also, I'm so sorry that it's mostly dialogue.
Hope you enjoyed! Bye!)
