Explanation of why I gave Cyrus 'Carousel' by Melanie Martinez.

Chorus:
'Round and round like a horse on a carousel / We go / Will I catch up to love? / I can never tell / I know / Chasing after you is like a fairytale / But I feel like I'm glued on tight to this carousel

I think this chorus fits Cyrus Anders because of the situation with Casey. I think this was how Cyrus felt during the beginning of season two because he felt responsible for what happened to Casey, and he wasn't even sure if she was still alive for a little while. Even after he found out she was alive, he still felt responsible for keeping her alive. It is canonical in the story that he wrote her letters that were never sent even though she might not like him anymore. I feel like especially 'Chasing after you is like a fairytale' matches the energy of that situation.

Verse 1:
Come / Come one / Come all / You must be this tall / To ride this ride / At the carnival / Oh / Come take my hand / And run through playland / So high / Too high / At the carnival

I think verse one fits him because he was the oldest of the siblings but still a child. He was kinda expected to be able to handle everything as well as the adults because he was the oldest. But just like his siblings and friends, he was still very young. I mean, he was only a year older than Holiday. I think that pressure made him feel extremely guilty when he did make a mistake or couldn't quite handle everything.

Pre-Chorus:
And it's all fun and games / 'Till somebody falls in love / But you already bought a ticket / And there's no turning back now

Cyrus, being a kid who's experiencing love for the first two times, doesn't really know what to expect out of a relationship or an almost relationship. This especially goes for Casey, where it was super cute and innocent, and then she kinda betrayed him in one the worst ways possible. Still love Casey, though. But for Cyrus, that was a bit of a tough thing. Then, with Brynleigh, he was expecting a similar thing, where it's just cute moments and stuff. Which there definitely was, but not the same way with Casey. Brynleigh had a completely different personality and way of showing love and affection. Not to mention that he and Brynleigh only started liking each other when things really started to get serious.

Verse 2:
This horse is too slow / We're always this close / Almost / Almost / We're a freak show / Right / Right when I'm near / It's like you disappear / Where'd you go? / Mr. Houdini / You're a freak show

I think Cyrus had quite a bit of anxiety about everything happening as it happened. I mean, we all heard his initial reaction to Holiday being a robot. He's very used to keeping this cooped up within himself, and I don't think he really ever thought about telling anyone else about a lot of things. Almost everything he knew, he wanted to be kept a secret.

Bridge:
Why did you steal my cotton candy heart? / You threw it in this damn coin slot / And now I'm stuck / Oh / I'm stuck / Riding / Riding / Riding

Back to Cyrus's overcomplicated love life and back to Casey's betrayal. I feel like at that moment where he didn't have any information about what was really happening, just that she was Flashcard. He felt more angry at himself and very stupid for not noticing anything. Yes, I think he was mad at Casey, too, but I think he was more confused about her and his feelings for her after this new information came about.

So yeah, all in all, this song was mostly chosen to explain his love life.
