Hawks slowly paced around the darkened building, whistling to himself. To be honest, this building was giving him the creeps. It was an old factory that had went out of business years ago, leaving behind rusted equipment from the holes in the ceiling. He stopped and furrowed his brows, something wasn't right. He turned around and almost jumped out of his skin. Mika stood less than a foot behind him with her hands shoved into her jacket pockets.
"I almost had a heart attack," he let out a long breath.
"Your whistling was enough cover for me to be undetected. You should pay more attention," her grey eyes held humor at his overreaction. It was a nice sight to see.
He ran a hand through his messy blonde hair with a grin, "Yeah, you're right." He reached into his pocket and handed her a phone charger, "Sorry I couldn't give it to you sooner, I've been busy."
Mika took it and shoved it into her jacket pocket, "It's fine....so, what's the deal?"
Hawks reached into his jacket and handed her a folder, "Some people the Commission has been paying off for their dirty work." He watched her look it over, "I have one request..."
Her grey eyes looked up at him, "What?"
"Don't kill them."
"Hawks-"
He cut her off, "We have more than enough evidence, but, they'll expect the pros to show up on their doorstep, not you."
"You want 'em all in one night," she ran a hand through her hair.
"We just need them cuffed and the call made." He smirked, "The entire commission was disbanded today...now we just gotta clean up the dirty laundry."
Mika blinked, "She did it."
The blonde nodded, "She did. The evidence we showed the department was fool proof. We have the same thing for these guys."
"Then I'll get started."
"We."
"No, I."
He held up his hand and shook his finger, "No, we. I'm not going to let you have all the fun."
She rolled her eyes, "Hawks...you're not exactly...unnoticeable." She motioned to his red wings, "Your face has been all over everything."
"That's where you come in," he crossed his arms, "You get in and get started, then I'll swoop in and finish it off. That way I can make the call and stay until authorities arrive."
Her eyes narrowed, "You're making this sound simple. With the Commission taken down, you know they'll be on high alert."
His golden eyes were amused, "Exactly. I'm counting on it. They'll be wound up and easy to take down."
"You give me a headache squawk boy," she pinched the bridge of her nose.
Hawks puffed his cheeks, "I do not 'squawk'."
Mika chuckled and put the folder under her arm, "You almost did when I scared you."
"I-I did not...you just caught me off guard," his checks held a light pink tinge.
Is he...blushing, she thought to herself. Moving past him she patted his shoulder, "I won't tell anyone..." she stopped and looked over her shoulder at him, "Unless I have to blackmail you."
He chuckled, "Noted." He turned to face her, "Read over those and let me know when you're ready."
"I'll be ready tomorrow night at dusk. Don't be late."
His golden eyes watched her go before he smiled. That was the most conversation they'd had. Dare say she even joked with him. He was surprised she took his no kill request so well. But, the again, it could always go south in the field tomorrow. He sent Bakugo a text, letting him know it was handled. Hallie deserved to rest now after everything she had been through recently. She needed to leave the rest to him and his...partner? Yes, partner.
____________
Mika plugged in the phone and looked through the folder Hawks had given her. Three big players, with some hired thugs. Not too big of a job, but still a tall order. It didn't matter, if it meant sealing the Commissions fate, she would take down as many as she needed too. Those old fucks mocked her when everything happened. They did nothing to support her, then hitting her in the gut when they gave him probation and merely pulled his license. No justice, just a cover up.Her phone buzzed and she sighed. Hawks better not start pestering her...she would toss this damn thing. Sure enough, it was him.
'I've given it some thought...I'm still upset that you think I 'squawk'....
She snorted with a smile and replied, 'Because you do...Hawks, you don't have to hide it from me, this is a safe space.'
She began to map out their route from tomorrow when it buzzed again:
'No ma'am. This is not a safe space. This is a judgmental one... 😤 And I am offended.'
He was such a nerd. 'That's fair. But, you did squeak a little bit...maybe I mistook it for a tiny squawk.'
The phone was silent for a bit as she finished up. Grabbing the charger, she carried it to her bedroom and plugged it in as it buzzed once more:
'It was a squeak....NOT a squawk.'
A small laugh left her and she settled into her sheets. 'Fine. We can agree it was a squeak. Night Squeaky.'
'Night 😭😭😭'
A yawn left her as she set the phone on her dark nightstand, settling into her cool, soft black sheets. Dark colors brought her comfort and calmed her usually racing mind. Most of her decor was dark, neutral colors. Something like the forest before a storm, when all of the deep colors are muted. Her grey eyes grew heavy, the humorous exchange with that idiot bird man on her mind.
_________
Hawks grinned at his phone. He was testing the waters to see how Mika would respond, if she would respond. He enjoyed their small exchange. She actually had a sense of humor under all of her glaring and quick temper. He knew tomorrow night was going to be wild, he just wasn't prepared for how wild.
