Chapter 29 - Would you mind playing with me?

Rayleigh's POV

As we are now at the front of the stage, the judges looked at us. I could feel an intimidating aura around them. This made my groupmates more nervous. I'm sure they won't be so hard on us - after all, they've already heard about Bridgette's sick dad, so it's okay.

Instead of worrying about our performance, I'm worrying about Psyche's brother - the one who sent me the threat letter. So far, it still gives me the creeps.

His name is Kyles Graham. He is not yet enrolled in this academy. But he will, when he unleashes his talent as an entrepreneur and becomes one of the richest people in the world. At such a young age, he already owned many companies. He was able to help his family and no longer had money problems. If it weren't for Kyles, your family would have gone bankrupt. Sadly, he didn't live long enough.

He was killed by the original Rayleigh.

Kyles Graham is one of the characters that the heroine cared deeply about. He was even considered as one of his best friends. As far as I know he is about a year younger than me. I have also observed that he is very cunning and intelligent.

I find it very sad when his love for the heroine remained unknown.

Damn, she really has a lot of admirers. Well, it's not really a surprise. It's obvious that the romance involves a harem, so of course it's expected.

I remember how Psyche was in despair at the death of her brother. Psyche doesn't like torturing other people, but Rayleigh was an exception.

Well, that's all. Now is really not the right time to be thinking about these things. I need to concentrate for today's presentation. My groupmates are trying their best here, so I should give mine too.

We started playing our instruments. I mix guitar sound with rhythm and melody. My groupmates have some mistakes, but I tried to cover them up without anyone noticing. So far, everything was going well. The judge started to smile, her eyes getting a little teary. I think the feather effect is working, that's cool. The other judges begin smiling gently as they watch them perform. Yes, just them. Because I could totally see how darkly they stare at me when their eyes dart in my direction.

Just as everything was going according to my plan, all the lights suddenly went out - ruining the mood and aura we were emitting earlier. Suddenly, I saw a silhouette coming towards us. I immediately dodged the attack, causing the guy to fall towards the wooden crates behind us.

"What was that!?" exclaimed Liam. He was able to feel the presence of the attacker because he was next to me.

"Everybody, stick together!" Jadon yelled in alarm. We did as he said and the five of us approached. "I swear I saw that guy holding a knife. He must be planning to stab one of us." I said.

An attack?... This has never been in the novel before... How the hell did this happen? Has anything changed in the story? Whatever the reason, this is downright bad. We are in danger.

"Wh-what!? Please tell me you just saw it wrong!" bridgette cried scared, wanting me to say I was wrong.

Suddenly, another silhouette appears, pointing his gun at Bridgette. I immediately grabbed the collar of her clothes, pulling her closer to me. When the attacker missed her, he stumbled to the ground, crashing into the large objects nearby. The others do not notice the attackers, instead becoming curious about the large sounds they heard earlier.

"What happened? Turn the lights on!" the male judge says.

The judges weren't aware of the attack either, which is why we needed to shout and say something. But before we could do that, some of them continually attack us, not giving us a chance to speak. Shit! Just how many of them are here!?

As another attacker points his weapon at Jadon, I immediately block him using my guitar. The silver haired man looks at me and notices the assailant. "Thanks." he says and hits the assailant with his violin. "Not bad for a dump." he added. I could feel the smile forming on her lips.

"For you too. Not bad for an idiot." I snapped.

"Oh? I don't want to hear it from you who fail tests too many times." he laughed. When I was about to say something, Jadon says something I didn't expect. "Teach me one of those moves, will you?" he grinned.

Huh? I don't know if it's just me, but…was he showing me a genuine smile?

I really can't be sure as it's too dark to see.

When the lights finally came back, they saw the attackers.

holding dangerous weapons and were utterly alarmed. Screams were heard and fear spread everywhere.

"WHO ARE YOU!?" exclaimed one of the judges. "Guards Guards! Call the guards!" he screams in panic.

The judges with him took a defensive posture, drawing a knife and other sharp objects. In fact, these guys are not ordinary judges. They are one of the professional fighters in this gym.

Someone immediately called the guards and arrested these people, but before they could get their hands on them, they killed themselves by taking a poisonous pill. The crowd was a total mess. Screams and screams were heard all around. I think it would be totally traumatizing to see dead bodies. As the bodies were identified, we recognized that they were the same guys who attacked us earlier.

My eyes widened in shock. 'How the hell did they manage to escape?..., I thought.

As traumatizing as the day was, we still won in the end. We managed to receive 10,000,000 gold coins. My group mates were happy to receive such an award, but because of what happened before, they were too numb to celebrate. Later I saw them splitting the money for each of them. I sighed softly, I really want the money, but I don't think these guys are going to give me a share. After all, I am Rayleigh Greyhound. I may have been a co-op member up until now, but in the end, there's no way their impression of me will change.

I just walked past them, pretending I didn't see them. I shouldn't be disappointed, I've always been alone anyway...

"Hey, Rayleigh!" Liam league.

Huh?

I stopped and slowly turned to face them.

"Where are you going? You almost forgot your 2,000,000 gold coins.

gold!" Liam tells me. He ran towards me, handing me the money.

What?...

"Damn, are you so forgetful when it comes to money? You nobles sure have it easy." he sighed.

"Hey Bridgette! Let's run to the hospital now and pay your dad's bills!" he tells Bridgette, running back to them.

I just stood there and watched the four of them leave. And to think they will

actually remember me... I looked at the money and for some reason, a slight smile was forming on my lips. We may not be on good terms, but I think they're still fair when it comes to money and work stand.

Well, I think I have a mission accomplished. Don't be humiliated in front of everyone.

Suddenly, I bumped into someone, it made him fall to the ground. "Oops. Sorry, sorry." I apologized, extending my hand to the guy.

"He is well." the guy replied, taking my hand.

I looked at the guy and recognized him. He was that guy with purple sapphire eyes from before. Just as I was about to release him, his grip on my hand suddenly tightened. He looks at me with the same smile that I actually find creepy.

"I know this is sudden, but...would you mind playing chess with me?" he gives a sly smile.
