Chapter 30 - Will it be?

Rayleigh's POV

Okay, I really don't know why I agreed to his offer. But for some reason, if I reject it, something bad might happen to me. Now, here we are in the school library, playing chess. I just stayed quiet, feeling uncomfortable with his presence. He moves the black pawn, eating my queen. 'Oh, damn, I didn't notice.' I thought.

I swallowed hard and moved my bishop, eating one of his pawns. To be honest, I'm not good at chess. I only played when we had a practice test on chess when I was still in high school. I forgot what the subject was, but that's okay. As far as I remember, it was the first and last time I played such a game. Sigh, it's okay if that was shogi. At least I would be more familiar with it I always play this game on my phone whenever I'm bored.

"So..." the guy spoke suddenly.

"Hmm?" I looked at him.

"What's it like not having talent at this school?... Have you ever been jealous of others for having something you didn't have?" he asked.

I stopped for a while and thought about this question. Rayleigh has always been jealous of other people who are better than him, so I guess it's... "Yes?" I answered.

To be honest, if you're asking Adrien me, my answer would be no. I wasn't jealous of other people who are more talented than me. Instead, I was very focused on surviving the bullies and other toxic people who want to bring harm into my life.

"So you were having thoughts like trying to take these people down? Like having a crab mentality?" he asks again, this time his eyes narrowed.

"Yes." I answered. Rayleigh has a crab mentality really extreme, so I can say that this is the truth.

"Ah. Same. I was totally like that before, but now I've changed, thanks to my brother. If it wasn't for him, I would have gone the wrong way." he smiles happily.

"So... have you also thought about destroying that person's life because they are more talented than you?" he asks again. This time, his smile was grim.

This time this question made me uncomfortable and uncomfortable. That's when I thought I should answer that question as me, being Adrien.

"No." I answered. His eyes suddenly widened, he didn't expect that to be my response. He has watched me closely and seems to say that I am telling the truth.

"For some reason, this answer of yours was even truer than the previous ones." he looks at me in wonder. I almost faltered. This guy is very observant.

I just looked at him silently and shrugged. After he took his turn, I moved my bishop again, eating his queen. A huge smirk formed on the guy's lips. He starts moving his rook. My eyes widened as I realized I was already trapped and with no escape.

"Checkmate." the guy smiled.

Your smile doesn't match your eyes. Your eyes seem to be dark and frightening, almost villain-like.

As the game is finally over, I can't help but feel relieved. I didn't care if I lost, what matters is that I don't want to spend any more time with him. When we both got up and were about to say goodbye, I saw something fall out of the guy's bag. My eyes widened at the familiar object.

"Shogi?...." I blurted out unconsciously.

The guy stopped and looked at me. "Do you know this game?"

"Oh yes?" I answered.

His eyes suddenly sparkled. "Oh really? Teach me. I don't know play this game. I've tried asking a lot of people but they always say they don't know," he says.
