Chapter 32 - Disguise

Rayleigh's POV

Seriously. About billions of living creatures in this world, hundreds of seas, thousands of islands; of all things, why the hell does it have to be me?

Never in my life have I been so worried about anything. In my previous life, all I did was run and escape. I was planning to do the same in this world, but everything goes wrong in the end. It's exactly the same as before. In the end, all my problems still remain unresolved.

Originally, my plan was to stay away from people. I should be the guy who stays in the safe zone. I should be someone who has nothing to do with this shit. But why?

Why the hell am I doing this!?

Shit. I must have gone crazy.

Right now, I don't know why I'm chasing Vanessa. And I don't know why I'm here, hiding with Lucas.

"Why are you here?" I whispered.

"How about you ask my question first? Why are you following her?" Lucas asked back.

"About that…uh…" I trailed off.

Oh shit. Why am I even doing this?

I should have gone to the officials and told them about the incident fire. Yes it's right. Why did I bother following her? Okay, let's rewind. When I was in the building with Lucas, I saw

Vanessa outside the window, acting suspiciously. That's when I remembered the fire incident that will happen in the future. I knew this would be Vanessa's doing.

So I followed. So Lucas just followed me around without me noticing. Later I just found out that he was already at my side when I was spying on Vanessa.

I really hate myself for forgetting such an important scene. So far, in some of the reincarnation novels I've read, there's always been a butterfly effect. I can't help worrying about it. I can't just safely assume there won't be a fire. More importantly, what if someone else took my place? Since I didn't join Vanessa, what if someone else replaced my role? It's a possibility. Supposedly, it is Rayleigh who is supposed to help her with her crimes.

Or if I'm just overthinking things? And if nothing will happen? So I'm just being paranoid. Yes it's right. I'm exaggerating, that's all. There's no way the fire incident could happen, right? After all, there were minor plot changes.

"Hey. Are you listening? Answer my question." Lucas looks at me with impatience.

I woke up from my thoughts and looked at Vanessa.

I saw her talking to Gwenn's boyfriend Mason. They seem to be having a good conversation. I sighed.

"Sigh. I must be going crazy... There's no way this could happen,

right?..." I mumbled to myself. "Huh? What the hell are you saying? What do you mean with

this?" He looks at me.

"First, you followed this woman. And now, you're talking some weird nonsense. Are you some perverted stalker?" he looked at me.

"What…of course not." I quickly denied.

"Oh? So what are you doing here?" he narrows his eyes.

"I could ask you the same." I snapped. "Why are you here too?" I asked.

"It's my job to investigate suspicious people. And you are suspicious." he me it says.

'How odd, you weren't the type to mind a woman whatever', I thought.
