"You killed our boy...", you whispered as the last bit of composure broke down and tears started to run down your cheeks.
Trembling, Thor stood there, frozen yet so many emotions visible within him.
His breath was flat, his fingers twitched.
As his eyes rose to meet yours they seemed to be made of glass that was about to break.
His lips trembled as he patted them a bit to release a shivering huff.
"I know.", the way he admitted it could have shattered hearts and realms with the amount of misery and guilt audible in it. "By all the nine realms, I know! There are so many things I would make undone, so many foolish actions I would turn against myself."
With tears rising in the corners of his eyes he fell to his knees. The ground started to shake at the impact.
With his shaking hands raised to his eyes he tried not to break into pieces.
The sight was enough to make the tears pour from your chin like rain from the sky.
It was terrible how heartbroken the two of you were, both for very selfish yet regrettable reasons. Both of you had acted wrongfully, both of you had wandered down wrong paths.
And despite your knowledge that there might have been a second chance you felt like it was too late.
Things couldn't be fixed anymore.
So why not break it yourself instead of bowing to fate and shattering under the pressure?
"(Y/N)!", Thor cried out as he wrapped his hands around his neck and let nails draw red lines on his pale skin until it turned as white as chalk. "I am suffering. I am in pain! Please... when will it end?! Why am I such a fool?!"
Tears ran down his cheeks but got caught in those rusty strands of his beard and wetted it with his wretched existence for everyone to see.
Paralysed by the memories and the final realisation that he had admitted to being the reason why the son you had loved was dead, you grabbed your chest and bend under the aching pain that tried to eat into every cell of your flesh.
You felt sick.
And yet.
Your legs managed to take some shaky steps, trembled as if you had suffered thousands of bleeding wounds and finally fell to their knees in front of him.
Without waiting for a command your hands reached out to grab his cheeks and force him to look you in the eyes.
How broken he was.
How pitiful.
And yet.
This was the only man you ever managed to love with all your heart and desire with all your soul.
He was the most strongest of curses. But also the softest of blessings.
For a long, yet not uncomfortable, amount of time you just stared at each other in silence while tears poured from your eyes.
For decades the two of you had done nothing but fight, either in silence, gazes or very rarely even words.
You had blamed him for everything while he had pulled in his tail and called you egoistic.
He had never tried to see your point of view while you had refused to understand his reasons.
And now here you were. Both broken godly beings that had no strength to go on.
In the end, the two of you had always been in the same place. But instead of standing back to back to each other you had turned to stand face to face now.
And it was cruel. So indefinitely and disgustingly cruel.
His pain made you feel like fading from existence would have been a soft death. You couldn't bare see him this way.
And Thor cried as many tears as he had cried for his sons for you in that moment. Because deep down he knew just as much as anyone else that he didn't need blood to love you like no other.
He regretted his choices, it was visible in his eyes.
But he also knew that despite these choices being the ones of his younger self, the older version that he was now couldn't make them undone. He wouldn't even be able to ease the damage that was still so very fresh and visible.
Your lips were already covered in a layer of salt as you finally tilted your head and placed a gentle almost shy kiss on his lips.
At first he didn't dare to return it.
He just kneeled there, tears still pouring, inhaling the sweet scent that he had endeared like no other so many days and even more nights ago.
Magni had not been your son by blood relations but in heart. He had been born a few years before Tyr had proposed a marriage between you and Thor.
You had raised him like your own since his mother had not been welcome in Asgard by the Allfather. He had never seen you as lesser than Thor.
Matter of fact, the bond of you and Magni had been so strong that he had visited you many, many times even after Thor had married Sif. Even after Modi and Thrud had been born.
He had been the one for many years to forgive his father and come back to him. To come back to the family the three of you once had been.
And even if Modi had been Sif's through birth he had visited with his brother many times as well. You despised his existence many times for he had been living proof that Thor had betrayed you in the worst of ways imaginable.
And yet.
You had loved these two.
You had tutored these two just the way Tyr had educated you. You had felt like you had been part of their lives, connected through Thor in some way.
You had loved them like the children you would have never had with the god of thunder.
And what did you have to hear one fateful day?
They would never visit you in secret again.
Magni had been killed by a stranger and his son.
And Modi?
Weakened by his fathers anger and stabbed like a stray.
You had lost everything. Just like Thor.
All that was left was one another. This world was too cruel to throw it away as well.
