Haley's POV

My mom turned the corner to see me with my knees scrunched up to my chest. I looked up at her, my face still molded into a big grin.

"Well you look like you had a good night." My mom chirped.

"It was ok." I replied.

"That's great. Dad called while you were out he said he's going to try and Skype us later."

My face had been holding the same smile for so long it started to hurt.

"That's amazing. I can't wait to see him."

"Go ahead upstairs. I'll call you down when he calls."

I nodded, picking myself up from my place before heading upstairs. I threw my sweatshirt across my room and my body dropped onto my bed. My head was spinning with thoughts. I seemed to daydream for awhile before my phone buzzed. I quickly got it out and realized who it was from.

From Charlie:

So when's the next date?

+

I rolled my eyes.

+

To Charlie:

It wasn't a date, remember?

+

From Charlie:

Yeah, yeah. But really, when can I see you again?

+

To Charlie:

Well, considering we go to the same school . . . I'm sure we'll see each other real soon.

+

From Charlie:

Smart ass, huh? I'll see you Monday.

+

To Charlie:

See you then.

I set my phone down next to me again and continued to daydream. I looked at the clock. 12:00. My eyes had become very heavy all of a sudden. I started drifting off, clenching my pillow. My mind was at ease but I had completely forgotten about the Skype call with my dad. But then again my mom never called me down...

******

My eyes fluttered open to see bright light shinning through my curtains. I gently rubbed my eyes and checked the clock. 8 a.m. Slowly, I pushed my covers off and slipped from my bed, making my way downstairs. My mom was already up and making breakfast.

"Hey mom. How come you never called me down for the Skype call?" I asked in my groggy morning voice.

"There was no Skype call." She said slowly as I poured a cup of coffee for myself. "Your father's been moved again. He wont be able to call for awhile." My mother spoke softly.

"Is he alright?"

"As far as we know. But lets just hope for the best, okay?"

I nodded as she brought a plate of eggs and pancakes over to my place at the table. It gets lonely sometimes being the only child in this house, considering my brother is away at college and I only had my mom for a parent.

"Hales, after you're done would you mind getting the mail?" My mother broke the silence.

I nodded. "Sure. Let me just finish this cup of coffee." I said, bringing the cup to my lips.
