Haley's POV
My eyes opened to the sound of my phone vibrating on the bedside table next to me. I groaned, reaching over to pick it up. But I stopped as I noticed something in my room. Or should I say someone. Charlie was asleep on the desk chair that was on the far side of the room. He must've come in after I had fallen asleep. I sighed, looking at him.
I returned to reality, scurrying into the hall before answering the call, "Hello?" I spoke into it.
"Haley?" My moms voice hit my ear.
"Yes?"
"I just wanted to let you know that Tom's going to be heading to California for a little while. To stay with friends and such. He's leaving tomorrow. I just wanted to know when do you think you'll be getting back?"
My mouth dropped. Tom was leaving? Again? How the hell could he do this to us? Especially in this time. When we need him now more than ever.
"Haley?"
"Yeah, sorry. And I'm coming back today."
"Ok. Ok. I just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to say. . .say goodbye." She almost sounded as if she was forcing out the words.
"Ill try to get back as fast as I can."
"Good. Are you alright? Your note didn't give much information."
"Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry about that. I just needed to get out of the house for awhile. But, I'll be home soon."
"Ok. See you soon. I love you."
"Love you too, mom." With that I clicked the end button.
I sighed, walking back into the room I was just in. Charlie was still asleep, but he started to wake up as he heard my footsteps. I glared at him as he looked up at me, leaning forward so his elbows were on his knees.
"Charlie, what do you think you're doing?"
"I just wanted to make sure you were ok."
"So, you came into my room and watched me sleep is what you're trying to say."
"No, it's. . ."
I stopped him mid sentence. "It doesn't matter. We need to get going as soon as possible."
"Is something wrong?" He asked, pushing himself up from the chair to stand by me.
"It's nothing, ok?"
"There's something bugging you. I can see its more than what's happening with us."
"My brother is leaving for California in the morning. If you must know so badly! Guess I don't get to see him for another 3 years." I almost shouted.
"You okay?"
"No. Is that what you wanted to hear? The truth? Well, there you got it."
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to. . ."
"Just please stop. It's making it harder when you keep saying sorry."
"You think it's not hard for me? To see you like this! Look I'm sorry I didn't ask you to be my girlfriend! Im sorry I didn't trust you when you said nothing was going on between you and Wes! And I'm sorry I lied to you!" With that, he ran a hand through his hair before exiting the room.
"Where are you going?" I called down the hallway.
"For a swim." He snapped.
I shook my head, running my fingers through my hair in a fit of annoyance. What's his problem? I guess I already know the answer to that but he knows I wanted to get back early. So why is he choosing now to take a "swim"? I swear he's doing it just to piss me off. I groaned, walking back into the bedroom before slamming the door shut. I could at least use the extra time well and pack up the things I took out of my bag on this short trip.
