Charlie's POV
"I'm home!" I called once I walked through the door to my house.
"Hey, honey! How was your game?" My mom asked.
"Same as always." I turned to the side and she gasped seeing the bruise on my face.
"What happened?"
"Just the same guy from West Abney High."
"Oh, Charlie. Do you need ice? Do I need to bandage anything?" She questioned.
"Oh, he's fine! It'll make him tougher anyways. It can't hurt to make the kid stronger!" My stepdad called from the living room.
"Mark! Look at his face!" My mom snapped.
"He's fine! I told you not to waste your time on that damn sport! But look what you do! You play anyways!" My stepdad yelled.
"Yeah, you wanna know why? It's because I love the sport! And I don't give a fuck if you like it or not!"
"Charlie! Don't talk to your father that way!" My mom scolded.
"Step father!" I corrected harshly, turning to get up to my room as quickly as possible before slamming my door shut.
God I need to get out of here.
Haley's POV
****
C'mon only a couple more classes till lunch. I thought.
"Alright students, go ahead and head to lunch and homework tonight is pages 30-36 in your workbook!" My teacher called.
I got up from my seat, grabbing my books to shove them in my book bag.
****
I made my way to my normal space but for some reason, I couldn't focus on my book because the worst possible outcome happened as a result of last night. I actually enjoyed it. I laid my head against the tree and looked into the cafeteria. I squinted slightly and saw Charlie, sitting with all the populars. I shook my head and tried my hardest to think of the night before.
Charlie's POV
I looked over to Haley's spot at lunch and tried to think of another excuse to get up from my table and sit with her. But none seemed to come to mind without having everyone get suspicious.
"Hey guys, I'm gonna head out. Um . . . I got to go to my locker before math." I stuttered.
But it surprised me when Wes and another girl named Adrianna, who was head cheerleader, stood up along with me.
"Great, I'll just go with you since I've got to go to my locker too." Wes said.
"And I wanted to talk to you in private." Adrianna spoke up.
"Well my locker's on a different floor then yours so. . ." I trailed off before turning to Adrianna. "And Adrianna we have last period together. We could talk then?"
"It's fine. I'll walk with you anyways."
"And this really can't wait." Both Wes and Adrianna insisted as I was left with no escape so I just nodded my head, beginning to walk in the direction of my locker.
We walked out of the cafeteria and passed right by where Haley was sitting. I looked over at her and she just shot me a glance before fixing her eyes once again on her book.
Haley's POV
Wow. Just wow. That's all I can think. I expected more from him. A rude remark or cocky smirk even, but to just shoot a glance and walk by? That never seemed to cross my mind. I guess I was right. He was just like the rest.
