Haley's POV
I sighed as I pulled another baggy tshirt over my head. Wes' words played over and over in my mind. "He loves you Haley." But somehow I didn't really believe that right now. It's been three days and Charlie hasn't even called or texted me. Nothing. Is he just going to give up and never talk to me again? I balled my fists at the thought. It mad me mad. Maybe Charlie wasn't the typical bad boy everyone thought he was. Maybe he was as much a coward as the rest of us.
Or maybe Wes had found him, told him about what happened. But knowing Wes means that if he did find Charlie already, he's made up a lie about what happened. Probably told Charlie I came to Wes begging him to help me forget about my problems. I shuddered at the thought and decided to try to not think of that.
I had to get out of this house though. Anywhere was better than my room or being slumped on the couch watching reruns of awful tv shows. The park. That's always a place I can clear my head. Very relaxing where no one seems to bother you. That's what I needed right now. Escape from reality for a bit.
The ducks quacked as they swam together in the giant pond. People threw bread into the water as the little animals chased after it. I took a seat on one of the old benches, inhaling a breath of the fresh air. It was a nice change compared to the same old smells of my house. The small fountain was still spraying water in all directions as I watched. Studying the way it would hit the pond below making ripples form. I knitted my eyebrows together as I remembered this was the place I had come about a week ago when I found out about Princeton. This was where I was sitting when I met that little boy. I mentally picked my brain to try and remember his name. Thomas! I finally thought. And his older brother. Tyler, I think. The one that's going to Princeton too. They were both so polite even if Thomas was only a toddler.
My eyes searched the park for anyone I knew. I sighed as I realized I didn't recognize any of the various couples and families. Everyone seemed to be with another person. Except me.
No, Haley. You came here to not think about all the shit going on in your life not bask in it more.
My mind scolded me as I quickly shook my head to get my thoughts off of the subject. I looked around again, watching the trees sway from the calm wind whirling around them. I shut my eyes to try and imagine my life if I hadn't been involved with any of this. Starting with never liking Wes.

~Freshman Year~
"Oh Haley! Look! Wes Jacobsen is staring right at you! I'd say he's got a little crush on you!" My friend Jo nudged my shoulder.
My eyes wandered over to where she was referring. No doubt Wes' eyes were placed on me. I gave him a light smile as he returned the gesture. I hugged my books tighter to my chest, blushing slightly. I've had a damn crush on him since middle school. So of course I was a little excited for him to be looking at me like that.
"Oh my god you two are going to be the best couple of all time!" Jo squealed from next to me. I had almost forgotten she was there.
"He probably doesn't even like me like that." I told her.
