Haley's POV
"Oh my god, Hales. I'm so sorry." My brother told me coming to comfort me along with my mom.
"I know. But it's not what you're thinking. He thought I cheated on him when I didn't. So to get back at me he took out another girl today. The most popular girl of our grade, not to mention his ex. Then I confronted him and he told me it was all just a game. That he didn't actually care for me."
"That son of a bitch. Im going to kill him for this."
"No, Tom, please. I can't handle anymore but there is a place I need to go right now. I'll be back later."
"Do you want one of us to go with you?"
"No, it's fine. I have to do it on my own."
My brother and mom nodded as I grabbed my car keys, heading back out the door towards the driveway. Once the engine started and I backed out, I continued down the street to go see the person who was responsible for all this.
******
I climbed out of my car, stomping up to the door of his house. I slammed on it to get his attention.
"Haley? I didn't expect to open the door to see you." Wes raised his eyebrows, looking at me from head to toe. "Hey, Charlie, I think someone's here to see you." I shook my head frantically to signal to Wes not to do that but all he did was pull that same grin at me. I wanted to smack it off his face so much right now. Within a few seconds later, Charlie appeared behind Wes.
"What is she doing here?" Charlie rudely asked, acting like I wasn't even there.
"I thought she was here to see you?"
"No." Charlie and I both answered at the same time, looking away as we said it.
"Am I missing something here?" Wes looked back and forth between the two of us. "The last time I saw you two you were all together and couple like."
"And the last time I saw you was with her."
Wes thought for a second finally remembering our last meeting. "Oh, you mean the coffee shop?"
I nodded. "He thinks we're together."
"You and me?" He motioned between the two of us before turning to Charlie. "No, man. That's in the past."
"Then why were you two out so late together?"
"We weren't. I was getting coffee to keep me awake on my drive home from the grocery store and Wes just happened to be there."
"I got drunk that night so I needed a change if taste to sober up before driving all the way home."
I let out a disgusted groan, turning my attention back to Charlie.
"You two are unbelievable. You expect me to believe that?"
"Charlie, Wes is telling the truth for the first time in his life. I'm telling the truth. Why don't you believe us?"
"Because the facts say differently then what you two are saying. I'm going home. Neither of you follow me." With that, he pulled his jacket on and pushed past Wes and I to get to his car.
Once again, I'm watching him get away. Letting him slip through my fingers.
I turned my attention to Wes as he began to laugh next to me. "What's wrong with you?"
"He's actually dumb enough to think you'd take me back after the shitty stuff I did to you. I find that hilarious."
"You still disgust me."
"Right back at ya, princess."
