Haley's POV

Charlie's back was leaned against a nearby tree, his arm around my waist, my head on his chest, and our hands intertwined in his lap. We had laid there for what felt like hours. It honestly all felt like a dream. A dream that I was scared to wake up from. It felt too perfect though. Maybe it was all in my head.

But I don't think it was.

"What're you thinking about right now?" Charlie asked as I felt his thumb rub over the back of my hand.

"Hmm," I cooed, shifting my head slightly so I could listen to his heartbeat. The steady sound soothed me and I almost forgot about the question.

"Well?" Charlie pressed as I returned to thinking of my answer for him.

I sat up so I could fully give him my attention.

"Well," I drew out the sound of the "L" as I stood to step in between Charlie's legs. I sat back down, crossing my legs as Charlie did the same. "I'm thinking about my mom, my brother, college, school, summer,"

"So everything except me then?" Charlie cut me off mid sentence. He was so impatient sometimes.

"You didn't let me finish!" I argued, leaning forward to let my fingers grab onto his neck so I could press my lips to his. As we reluctantly pulled away, I began to finish my list.

"I'm thinking about you, about us. Everything you did for me tonight. I loved every little detail, Charlie. I love you."

"You have no idea how much I love hearing you say that." A smirk curved on Charlie's lips as we leaned in again.

But we halted as a clap of thunder was heard above us. I looked at Charlie as he stared back at me. The rain began to pelt us as we started to laugh.

"Perfect timing!" Charlie yelled at the sky as I laughed harder. "Come on, lets get out of here!" He turned to me, standing from the ground before offering his hand for me to take. Which I did as he used his strength to pull me up.

Charlie and I began to run back in the direction of his car, my one hand holding my heels, while my other was intertwined in his. The rain soaked our clothes but we laughed the entire way back until we reached his car.

"Open the door!" I chuckled over the rain as Charlie fiddled with the keys.

He finally opened the door as we climbed in. The sloshy sound of our wet clothes hitting the seat was heard as we pulled away.

"Well, that ruined the evening." Charlie said as he turned the windshield wipers on.

"It doesn't have to end yet, you know?"

A smirk tugged on his lips as he rested his hand on my knee, "You read my mind."

We got to Charlie's house about 10 minutes later. I looked at the driveway. No other cars were parked there.

"Where's your mom?"

"Not sure. Let me call her." Charlie said, parking his car in the middle of the driveway as he held his phone to his ear.

I waited patiently in my seat, tapping my nails on my thigh as he talked to his mom on the phone. Soon, he ended the call.

"So?"

"She's visiting my grandparents for the weekend I guess."

"And she didn't take you with her?" I raised my eyebrows.

He shook his head, "She knows I hate going there."

"Oh," Was all I could say as Charlie peered over at me. He leaned in placing a single kiss to my lips.
