Haley's POV

"Oh my god. Hales, are you alright?" Jo was at my side with her hand on my shoulder as we watched Charlie walk away.

All my thoughts were jumbled together. I didn't know who to believe. I should've believed Charlie right away but I'm being honest when I say our relationship hasn't exactly been the cleanest concerning lies. And Jo. What if she was telling the truth? What if Charlie was the one who stole my phone? But why would he make it look like I had all these conversations with Wes just to come and yell at me? Truly, nothing made sense and it hurt my mind to keep thinking of it.

"Lets just forget about that and watch some of those movies." I changed the subject, throwing my hand up in the air.

I couldn't help it as my mind travelled to Charlie once we were inside her house once again. I sat down on the couch, rather uncomfortable. It was almost like I had never been to Jo's house and I wanted to be polite by not being rude.

"Ok, I thought we'd start with the Notebook?" Jo raised her eyebrows at me with a peppy tone in her voice but I paid no attention as I stared blankly down at the floor. "Haley?" She snapped her fingers in front of my face to break me from the trance I was in.

"What?" I asked dumbly as she rolled her eyes.

"Look, if it's any consolation I don't know what Charlie was talking about. I hadn't seen him since the food court at the mall. Haley, I'm telling you I never gave him your phone. And I know you probably don't want to hear this but maybe it's a good thing. You know? That you finally saw what Charlie's really like?"

"Why're you pushing for us to break up so much?" I had to ask. She seemed like she was forcing that part of her little speech more than anything else.

"I'm not. It's just that you two are totally different people. When you told me that you two were together I thought you were joking. C'mon Haley you didn't actually think it would last, did you?"

"Maybe me staying wasn't such a good idea." I stood from the couch as Jo stood up at the same time, grabbing my arm.

"No, don't go. Im sorry, ok? I just never saw you two as a couple."

"It's not your fault. A lot of people think that." I sighed, sinking back down into the couch. "So, the Notebook?" I looked down at the movie on the table before shaking my head. "Could we watch something else tonight?"

"Sure, what do you want to watch instead?"

"Some kind of horror movie or I don't know. Anything but a romantic right now."

My answer obviously surprised her as the white's of her eyes became more noticeable. Our tradition was to always start with romance movies and end with horror. Well traditions change just like people. But she seemed to understand as she stood to place the Notebook back on the shelf with the rest of the movies.

"Oh, ok." Jo hesitated but agreed as I gave her a weak smile. "Well, I'll get the stack of horror movies from my brother's room then."

I nodded as she left the room. Even though Jo's little brother was young, he was the biggest advocate of horror movies I'd ever known. My eyes travelled to my cell phone that sat on the small table adjacent to the couch. I picked it up, my fingers scanning for the icon that read "Messages" as I clicked on it. I had to see these conversations for myself.

A small gasp fell from my lips as the evidence was right in front of me. The raw evidence behind Charlie's anger. But the question that was still left unanswered was if I wasn't the one who texted Wes, then who did?

Charlie's POV

My knuckles turned a shade of white as I gripped the steering wheel. How could she say all those things? Not believe me? And what the hell was Jo saying? That she didn't give me Haley's phone! That's bullshit! And I'm positive she did that on purpose. Just to make me look even worse in front of Haley. I knew Jo had something up her sleeve. She can't be trusted. What she just did was evidence enough. But how do I get Haley to believe me instead of that backstabbing bitch?
