Prologue: Mass effect 2 and The commander lost in space

[Y/n POV]

It's been a blissful 2 years since saren and sovereign's death. After a few month, we all started to go back to how things were before eden prime. It wouldn't be an uncommon site to see Jane and I show a bit of affection while on duty. A peck on the cheek or lips for good luck before our missions. The same can be said with John and Kaiden. Kaiden now calls John "Shepard 1" and Jane "Shepard 2" as a recurring joke between us. Once we're off deployment, I'm thinking of asking Jane to marry me. This is truly the only woman I'd want to have my own family with. While I'm working down In the armoury, the ship gets hit by a blast! Im sent flying into the wall a little dazed. Wasting no time, I get suited up rush to Jane. I see my dead follow crew mates including navigator Presley. I see Jane trying to  put down a fire and I rush to help her

Y/n: "Jane! Who the hell's attacking us?! The geth?" I say while trying to stop the electrical fire

Jane: "No idea. It's not any kind of ship I've ever seen. I've already sent out the distress beacon to the alliance" she says after putting on her helmet once the fire is more contained

Y/n: "Will the alliance even get here in time before the Damn ship gets ripped to shreds?" I say slightly panicking until a blast behind us knocks me into her chest and she stabilizes me

Jane: "The alliance won't abandon us! We just need hold on. Get everyone onto the escape shuttle!" She says while trying to stop another fire

Y/n: "Joker's still in the cockpit. Fat chance in hell he'd leave willing and neither am I" I say while helping her put out the fire

Jane: "I need you to get the crew into the evac shuttle. I'll take care of joker" she starts walking away

Y/n: "To hell with that, commander. Kaiden's already helping the crew. I'm NOT leaving you here!" I say firmly and joining her.

Jane looks back at me and begrudgingly nods knowing how stubborn I am. After seeing that Kaiden did help the crew and left with John we go to find the cockpit. Meanwhile we hear joker over the comms

Joker: "Mayday, mayday, mayday! This is SSV Normandy!" He says as you can hear his panic and urgency in his voice "We've taken damage from an unknown enemy!"

Once we reach near the galaxy map we hear joker one more time

Joker: "Come on, baby! Hold it together. Hold it together!" He says more to himself than towards anyone else

Once we reach the cockpit we see joker working as hard as possible to try to salvage the Normandy

Jane: "Come on, joker! We have to get out of here!" She says trying to convince him to safety

Joker: "No! I won't abandon the Normandy! I can still save her!" He says pleaded for us to give him that chance

Y/n: "The Normandy's already good as finished. You dying on board won't bring it back!" I say trying to get my point across... which seems to work as he puts his head down and signs

Joker: "Yeah.... Okay. Help me up" before I can do anything we all see on the radar that the ship is coming back "They're coming around for another attack!" He says alert. This gets me to grab his arm hard which he grunts and tell me to "Watch the arm!" And I slink his arm around my shoulder and get near the last escape pod just in time to see a laser shoot right behind us, cutting the ship in half.
Once we get near the escape pod a blast knocks both me and joker in the pod and Jane further back into the ship right by the launch button

Joker: "Commander!"

She looks at the button then back at us... then the button

Y/n: "JANE DONT DO IT!" I shout trying to reach her until she hits the button and the door closes and we lunch. I hid the door and pound on it once "JANE!!!"

I slide down the doors and shed a tear and eventually sit by joker who give me a comforting hand on my shoulder

Once we land we both regroup with my team

Liara: "By the goddess, I was beginning to worry" she says and breathes a sign of relief... until she sees my face

Kaiden: "Where's Jane?" He asks looking behind us

Y/n: "She... didn't make it" I say with my voice not only emotionless but calm and broken

Kaiden: "No.... She..." he says in disbelief

Tali: "Kee'lah. What will you do now?" She ask worried for me

Y/n: "I don't know... I just... I don't know" I say defeated and lost. I just knew one thing... the alliance... wasn't the same without her. I wasn't planning on going back. I'll miss you Jane...

I open up a hatch in my suit and pull out a ring box which results in everyone now realizing how much worse this was on me. That not only was she the love of my life... but that I never got to even propose.

So I hope you guys enjoyed this prologue. It's short but I want a shorter beginning before jumping into the beginning. I hope you enjoy the change in writing. I'll be updating at every 3 or 5 days. Just know I'm constantly working on the next chapters. Just here and there throughout the days.

Also I saw how many people choose to stick with Jane as a romance option so that's what I'll do. I only gave that option to change it since mass effect 2 gave you a second option too

Also I may be having troubling with updating soon since I'm experiencing charging issues with my phone. Keep that in mind and know I'm not giving up the story. Just issues on my end
