TORI POV
Dave and I were currently talking to our mother. It felt good just to talk to her even though she wasn't physically here. We both bowed our heads.
"Mom," I sniffled, looking down at her grave. "Not too long ago you were taken away from us. I know God is taking great care of you. We know your happy. I miss you more than ever, and I'm so sorry for all th-" my talking was cut by a buzz in my pocket.
When I looked at it, I saw a notification from Adam. It said something about meeting up with him at the top of the building.
Right now, I was only worried about my mom. I was about to start speaking when I lost my train of thought. Damn. The things Adam did to me.
Dave opened his eyes and looked up. His eyes grew in concern when he saw me.
"What's wrong?" He asked. "Did something happen? Did somebody notice you were gone? We need to get you back ASAP." Before I could explain to him what the text was about, he grabbed my hand and we ran across the street to his car.
He quickly opened the door from the car and put the key in the engine. As Dave continued to drive, I took the time to explain to him what happened. He immediately pulled over and his car came to a complete halt.
"So you're telling me that we just missed a valuable conversation with our mother because your hubby wanted to meet up with you?" He asked hysterically. Instead of getting mad at me or him, he started laughing so hard. He repeatedly jerked his head back and forth on the wheel.
Well, that was unexpected. He loved mom so much and hated whenever anything (except for me of course) got in between of his relationship with my mom. And considering the fact that his last visit with Adam didn't go so well, I didn't know he would be happy about it.
"Yeah, what's wrong with that?" I asked.
"You're going to ditch your own mother to go and converse over some lovey dovey fake crap with your dumb freak for an ex who can't even remember his own last name?" He asked rhetorically.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted to finish talking to mom and spend some time with Dave. But, I couldn't just abandon Adam. This is an opportunity. Whatever is waiting for me can change a lot. All this time I've been waiting for a sign, waiting for him to confirm his feelings for me.
Of course my mom wouldn't like to see me hurt. If she was still here, she wouldn't want to see me cut. If I go to Adam and talk it out with him, it won't stop me from cutting, but it might give me a reason to stop wanting to end my life. Times like these were just a reminder of how hard Adam impacted my life. But then again this opportunity can actually make me happy. All my mom wanted was to see me happy. I was going to live my life, but I was always going to remember her.
"I'm going back to the hospital" I stated. "Either you quit the laughing and drive me there or I walk by myself." I folded my arms and glared at him.
He held his hands up jokingly. "Hey hey now, don't pin this on me. Last time I remembered he was the one who came to our house and slashed my face. I'm not giving any excuses or anything but I don't trust him. He needs to figure himself out. I don't like him or any man trying to mess with you and you know that. I love you and care for you Tori, but if this is what you want I'll support you all the way." He started the engine and drove off.
Surprisingly, it wasn't even awkward. Dave and I sang along to songs on the radio and made silly knock knock jokes that literally made me cry. And for the first time, it was actually for a good thing. It's called some tears with joy or something like that.
My laughter toned down a little when I noticed that we were pulling up to the back of the hospital. I tried to act normal, but I couldn't be more nervous right now. I had no idea what to expect. This was especially since this is Adam we're talking about.
"Good luck sis" said Dave. "Be safe and text with me with all the details afterwards." He gave me a kiss on the forehead and gave me $5 bucks. This was 'just in case Adam forgot to bring any food' as Dave said. I didn't like his comment, but free money is not something I'm gonna complain about.
I got out the car and waved goodbye to him. I was in a dark grey jean shirt with black sweats and matching roshes. Mom loved the color black because she liked the fact that it went with everything. So, I wore it for her. Plus, the shirt covered all my scars. Win win.
I climbed up the ladder from the back of the hospital. When I got to the top, my mouth opened in shock.
There were daisy petals (since I hate roses) sprinkled in a path towards a round bench from the cafeteria. There was a small cake in the middle of the bench and a big tray surrounded by it.
Adam got up from the bench and smiled when he saw me. He was in sweats, but he was looking real good. His hair was tied up and his facial hair was on point. But, he had a bunch of cuts and bruises on his face. He politely took my hand and sat me down across from him. I kindly sat and got down to business.
"We need to talk."
