I walked out of Tori's room feeling more numb than I was when I walked In. Every emotion in me was shut down. My head pounded more than ever. As I was walking to my room, I noticed Tori hiding from the corner. As I looked to see who she was spying on, I had to cover my mouth with my hands to stop from laughing.

Dr Lenner was still in his uniform, now talking to a police officer. I noted the police man give Lenner a cold hard look, kind of like the look you give to someone who seems familiar.

"Come with me" the cop said sternly.

I was about to walk away thinking she'd do the same. But instead, she actually used the ladder from the back to follow him. Even if I can't get her to be my girl, I know she definitely worth fighting for. I just gotta start putting the effort.

I followed her the whole way to the police station where Lenner was. This time he wasn't with the cop; he was with a detective. Shit just got real.

I saw Tori about to walk into the questioning room after the detective and quickly grabbed her wrists and pulled her back.

"Yo w-w-what the fuck are y-you doing? Listen we're already not wel-wel-welcomed here" I half yelled, observing the weird glances from cops. "If your ass wants to listen to the questions the detective is asking I suggest y-y-y-you shut up and listen" I said harshly. We both needed answers about Lenner. I wasn't gonna miss out on this opportunity because Tori wants to be too curious.

"Welcome back Lenner" said the detective. "So you honestly think that by changing your name and playing nice guy in a hospital we weren't gonna find you? I peeped your record."

"Yo what's it gonna take this time to shut you up?" Lenner said in a low whisper. I smirked. I knew there was something off about his ass from the first day I saw him in his little cheap suit and wack ass cologne.

I heard foot steps approaching the door Tori and I were currently standing near. Tori panicked, but I quickly put my hand over her mouth. She gave me an evil glare and tried to bite it.

"Shut up Jeremy. No amount of money can save you this time." I glanced inside the room and saw the detective pull out a huge ass file. "Jeremy Cooper, case #1738."

As soon as Tori heard that name, her eyes widened in shock. She quickly ran out of the building. I would've followed her, but I had to stay to hear the rest of this.

"Charged for 2 accounts of rape and attempted murder. Got out on bail but came right back. On your court hearing, you some how disappeared. But here you are, alive in the flesh."

"Whatever man. You gonna have to let me go since you don't have any actual evidence against me. I'll be gone like the wind the second I step out the door. So good luck."

I ran out the building before either of them could spot me. I made a quick turn around the corner when I noticed someone standing there, looking like he was waiting for someone.

He was Chris. The white guy who beat my ass about a week ago.

I suddenly felt the urge to hurt him. But considering my surroundings, I knew that wasn't a good idea.

"Yo you?" He said, pointing to me. "Ain't you the guy I beat up the other day?"

"Unless y-you wanna see opposite of that today I sug-suggest you shut your ass up" I spat.

"Listen man, I don't want no more beef with you. I'm trying to clean up my act. I actually got got shot down a few days ago and the other two went AWOL. I learned that I gotta make it out here for myself, you feel me?"

I was actually seeing a different side to the guy. He didn't look mean spirited or cold blooded: he actually looked like a human being. I can't say the same for myself though.

"Yeah" I said.

"Man they accepted me with open arms. They ain't judge me by my color and I didn't either. They weren't the typical black gangsters hustlin and allat. We were all just rebellious dealers. They all doin sumn with they lives now, and I'm still looking for answers with mine. Especially with a bullet hole in my stomach and back. But what's good with you bruh?"

"Um actually I wanna see if you got some dirt on a guy named Jeremy Cooper." I mean, if he's standing outside a police station and used to sell dope wth his friends then he must know some valuable info about someone.

"Yeah yeah, I heard a little something about the dude" he said, handing me a mug shot of him.

"I guess you go back to living yo life while I'm waiting for mines to end. I already hit the end of the tunnel. Heaven don't got space for all the sinners. There's got to be a way man, but I don't even know anymore."

"It's gonna get better. You just gotta take it day b-b-by day and when you find someone that you l-l-love and care for, they're gonna make your life worth it. Guaranteed. I wish I c-could invite you to chill but you know hospitals aren't kind t-to strangers. You should really get checked out bro. But I know you're gonna make it out."

"Thanks for all the Oprah bs. I done tried all dat but look where it got me. I'm stuck man. But you right though, I just gotta try a lil harder. But bro you good? You don't look well. Like, at all."

Shoot he was right. I was feeling a hangover times a hundred cuz of my accident, and I was dizzy as hell. My eye lids were half closed.

"Yeah I'm straight" I said.

I gave Chris a much needed hug and headed back to the hospital. I didn't care if Lenner saw me or not. I knew I possibly just saved a life. I know I'm gonna start working on mine. That's all the satisfaction I need.
