Chapter 31

Chance

This is the biggest splurge I had so far. I smirked the moment I was signing the papers for my new car. A black Montero Sport. A pick-up. This is finally the fruit of all my labors.

"Ayos yang ride mo ah?" ngumisi si Deo at Rahim.

We just met up at Daniel's. Rahim is leaving for Manila and I don't know when he will be back. Probably as far as the case that my gradfather assigned to him goes on.

"It felt great..." I just shrugged.

"Congrats," Rahim offered a fistbump to me. Agad kong kinuyom ang kamao at tinanggap iyon.

"May pera ka na, degree, title, and business..." Deo sipped his coffee. "Asawa na lang ang kulang."

I shrugged. "Wag muna..." tumawa ako.

It's true... Not yet. Wala akong gana maghanap. Ewan ko, natatakot siguro ako. But c'mon. Scared? That's absurd.

"Here's your order. One chicken adobo, one palabok and one marinated fried beef," Daniel served. "Ang swerte niyo, ang may-ari pa mismo ang nagse-serve."

"Dapat lang..." ngisi ko. "I might give a one-star feedback if not."

"Man... you're still annoying."

I chuckled at him. "That's mine."

"Bagay sayo yung kulay. Black and the tires seem wild..." Daniel whistled and went out to check it.

Rahim and I passed the bar three years ago. And right now, I'm the clan's civil attorney. I work as the corporate lawyer of the Hiñago Group and I still manage the SouthWest District too. All that hard work was finally poured into my newly purchased car.

I finally retained my name, and honor in front of my grandfather.

"By the way," Deo shifted the topic. "May trabaho kami ni Denise sa Manila. Mga five days lang naman..." Deo informed me. He stared at me too, hinihintay ang reaksiyon ko. "Scheduled sa last week ng November."

My brows stitched. That's next month. Again? Do they have to go together again? "Napapadalas na yang lakad niyo ah?"

Nagkibit-balikat si Deo at sumubo. "It's work. Daming pinapagawa ni Razi."

Rahim chuckled and pointed me teasingly. "Damian Antonio, kung hindi ka mapakali, book a flight at bantayan mo."

I clicked my tongue and glared at my cousin. "Just mind your distance, Deo."

Umarko ang kilay niya. "Excuse me?"

"Masyado na kayong close," paglilinaw ko. "Remember that you're still inlove with his sister." Tinuro ko si Rahim.

"I am!" sabi niya at marahas na lumingon kay Rahim. "Makupad lang talaga tong kumilos si Rahim."

"If you miss her, go buy a ticket too!" asik ni Rahim. "Lovelife niyo yan, ako pa gagawa? Paano naman yung akin?"

I just continued to eat, not minding Rahim's words.

"I told you, I'm not! We're just friends. Now stop getting your stupid jealous ass to take over your system!" asik niya rin. "For God's sake, kung dapat kang may pagselosan, si Frian yon. Pupunta sila ng Basilan next week dahil sa ministry. And they have practice inside the Casa the entire week."
