So guys this was the 19th chapter in my draft and I updated the 20th chapter first. Sorryyy. This is the 19th chapter! In short I updated 20th first, but now I rectified the mistake. Here's the unpublished 19th chapter.
I was on my way to meet Jungwon when I met Hayun outside the elevator. She was standing there, shifting her weight from one foot to another as if trying to make her mind about something, the topic was most probably Heesung. When she felt my presence, she raised her head and looked me in the eye.
The first thing I noticed was that she looked exhausted. Second thing her eyes were red. Third thing she still looked painfully beautiful. In one glance people could ignore her, but Hayun had an innocent aura around her that I really found intriguing. Maybe because I had only met handful people with this thing.
"Hi." She squeaked out. Hayun was older than me, but the way she acted, one could possibly see me as the unnie among us. "I'm okay. It's just lack of sleep."
If it were someone else, I would have said 'I didn't ask', but with Hayun I replied, "It's okay. I understand." She smiled, nodding to herself, probably satisfied with my lack of inquiry.
"You're good friends with Jungwon?" Hayun asked, and no, it didn't have any suggestive tone. It seemed like a genuine question. "It must be nice, no? Having someone who is from the same industry. To talk and all."
I knew what she meant. We, idols, were bound by contracts. We couldn't talk about idol business just to anyone. It could cause trouble. News, rumours could be leaked. In this kind of life, you were on your own. Smiling for the cameras and trying not to worry about what side profile the magazines would choose. The only person who could understand us were the idols themselves.
"I think so." I hummed. "How's it going? The show."
"Nice. Actually..." Hayun bit her lip. A nervous gesture. I wondered what was going on in her mind. "The thing is I was here to ask for a favor from Heesung Sunbae, but you're already here, so I should ask you myself." Her words were rushed and at the same time jumbled.
"Okay.." I said slowly, watching her fumbling with her hands. "Everything okay?"
"Chayoung, you're a popular idol, and I know I can't give you anything. Not the meaningful headline or any good outcome, and I know only I will be benifited, but..." She closed her eyes, sighed. "I have to get someone as my friend for the next week's shoot, but I don't know anyone."
"Alright?" I knew where it was heading, but I acted like I didn't understand because while she struggled to talk, I thought of how to answer the predictable request coming my way.
"My company of course wants me to have a popular idol on the show, but I don't know anyone. For me, it's not even about popularity. I don't have friends in this industry and..." Hayun hung her head low. I felt bad. She looked so small. "I'm from a small company and already things have not been on my side, so I was wondering-"
"Can we meet before the shoot?" I cut her off, and she looked up startled. "I don't want to look like a fool when they ask me your favorite movie. I want to be able to answer." I smiled to ease her. "Give me some time, I'll talk to my company. Okay?"
She covered her face with her hands and took deep breaths. "Thank you." Her voice was breaking, and I knew I had taken some of the weight of whatever it was bothering her, off her shoulders. "I'll just... I'll talk to you later."
"Give me your number. I'll inform you," I said as I gave her my phone. She avoided the eye contact. Whatever it was, Hayun was bothered. Seeing her fighting her tears reminded me of Ae-Cha. "Unnie," I called her when she turned to leave. "Chin up. You can't fight the world blindly. Look at them in the eye."
