February 4th

"How long do you think you'll be?" Oakley asked Kayce as he finished zipping up his bag.

"Not sure," Kayce looked over at where Oakley was sitting on the bed. "We gotta round up the horses and the land they're on is over a hundred acres of hills and rivers...once we find 'em then we need to bring them back south."

"How many are going with you?" Oakley frowned.

"I've got three of my guys," Kayce pulled his bag over his shoulder. "We got a few from that county meeting us out there too."

"They can't just get some other Livestock Commissioner to do this?" Oakley tried to give Kayce a smile to show she was joking, but he could see right through her.

"I am the only Livestock Commissioner, baby," Kayce walked over to where she was and set his bag down on the bed.

"I can't even have Tate while you're gone," Oakley sighed, getting up on her knees as Kayce held her hips.

It was Monica's two weeks to have Tate, and Kayce had been called out to help out with some wild horses a few counties over. He thought it was three days tops, but Oakley was trying to lower her expectations.

"I wish you'd go stay with your parents," Kayce said.

"There are like thirty people working and living here," Oakley shook her head. "I'm not running off because you won't be here. This is my home too now."

Oakley watched an internal battle happen behind Kayce's eyes. She reached up with her thumb and gently traced down his forehead, between his eyebrows.

"What's got you so concerned about your dad?" Oakley asked softly.

"Just history," Kayce shrugged.

"He's not even here half the time anymore," Oakley sighed. "Beth's got him running up and down the state now."

"Can you at least work from here instead of the main house?" Kayce asked.

"If I need a printer or a signature, I'll have to go up there," Oakley gave in though. "But yes, I'll stay here as much as I can."

"Thank you," Kayce squeezed her sides. "I gotta go."

"Please be safe," Oakley pulled Kayce close and kissed him, giving him no time to answer her one way or the other.

"I love you," Kayce cupped Oakley's cheek and pressed his lips to hers again.

"Show me," Oakley smirked, kissing Kayce again and pulling him down onto the bed with her.

Kayce chuckled, his hands roaming under her shirt. His tongue pushed past Oakley's lips, dancing with hers while goosebumps appeared on her arms from his nails scratching down her back.

"Where was this an hour ago?" Kayce nipped at Oakley's bottom lip.

"This...was making you breakfast," Oakley giggled, tugging on Kayce's hair.

Kayce sighed, rising up on his arms, looking down at Oakley. Her hair was a mess now, spread out under her on the bed. She watched his eyes glaze over, the look he only seemed to ever have with Oakley.

"I should just stay here and be a cowboy," Kayce murmured, his fingers messing with Oakley's button on her jeans.

"Mmm," Oakley hummed, pulling him back down over her. "Maybe get your hands dirty?"
