Oakley hoisted herself up, into the truck and pulled the door shut. This was the first doctor's appointment Kayce had missed and it was for a good reason. He had led his team in a search and rescue mission in connection with the Gary Sterling human trafficking case a few months ago. They had been able to get a lead on one of the men who assisted Sterling, running him right up to the Canadian border before catching him.
While Oakley had missed Kayce, she would let this one slide due to everything surrounding it. Oakley turned on the truck and let the heater start warming her up. It was October thirty-first, and it was already cold in town. She put her knuckles against the vents and sighed contently. Her eyes were a bit splotchy as she looked in the mirror, but they made her smile. One good thing is she now had something over Kayce.
Oakley knew the sex of the twins.

"You're being cruel, woman," Kayce growled across the table.
The trio was currently eating supper, Kayce having come home a few minutes ago from his day. Oakley looked across the table at him as she passed the bread plate to Tate.
"I said later," Oakley bit her lip to keep her from smiling. "Can't we just have a nice dinner?"
"You know the sex," Kayce grunted. "Tell me."
"Later," Oakley laughed.
"What is wrong with you?" Kayce asked.
"I think you're the one who's losing it, honey," Oakley winked at Tate who was smirking at the two of them.
Oakley smiled over at Tate who was staying pretty calm while his father decided to take the angry route in this game she was playing and having too much fun with. She finished her water and sat the glass down.
"I think everyone at this table will be pleased," Oakley said.
Kayce blinked at her for a few seconds.
"Do you not know how to answer a question?" Kayce leaned back in his seat. "Has it really come to this?"
"Wait," Tate thought. "I wanted brothers...so are they two boys?"
"Oaks wanted girls," Kayce pointed out.
"I said I'd like girls," Oakley rolled her eyes. "But I would love two boys just the same."
"Total mom comment," Tate muttered to Kayce who smirked.
"Watch it," Oakley raised an eyebrow. "We're on the same side right now."
"Sorry," Tate sat back in his seat. "Dad? You wanted boys, right?"
"I just said two daughters would scare me," Kayce mentioned. "Oakley...sweetheart?"
"Yes, dear?" Oakley smirked.
"You wanna maybe tell us who is joining our family here in about three to four months?" Kayce asked, trying to give her a sweet smile.
"But you love surprises," Oakley smiled.
"I hate surprises," Kayce snapped. "You know this."
"Tate?" Oakley asked. "What do you think would be the best outcome for all of us to be happy with the results?"
"Huh?" Tate looked at her.
"What would be the best outcome for each of us to be happy with the results?" Oakley asked again, knowing he'd get it this time.
Tate looked over at Kayce who was now watching him too. After thinking about it for a few seconds, Tate looked back at Oakley.
"I'd say...that we'd have one of each," Tate answered. "Right?"
