IT HAD BEEN A FEW HOURS ON THE PLANE TO EL DORADO, AND LIV WAS JUST WAKING UP FROM A NAP. The girl was so tired that she knocked out right when she got comfortable. She was attached to JJ's side, her head resting right up against his upper arm. He let her sleep peacefully as he quietly conversed with Kiara, one of his hands holding hers tightly. His thumb swiped over her knuckles absentmindedly, and he kept looking down at her every couple minutes to make sure she was still there and breathing.
When Liv reluctantly opened her eyes, she wanted to snuggle right back into JJ's side and not worry about getting to South America. But she didn't do that, and instead brought the back of her hand up to rub her eyes. She could feel the sweat dripping down her forehead and down her neck, making her grimace as she sat up fully.
"Morning, Red," JJ spoke softly, a small grin on his face. "We're about to land actually. Perfect timing, baby."
Liv nodded, looking up to him, "Thank God. Sorry I slept for so long." She winced as she stretched her legs out.
"No problem," JJ shook his head. "Not anything exciting happening anyways."
The plane landed in a field of green grass, where a few trucks were waiting for it. As men started to haul packages out of the plane, the trio took their own leave. JJ looked around at the men, saying, "Damn. Barracuda Mike's got this import-export thing down." Liv hummed, picking at her fingernails. "Oh, wait. Yo, Barracuda, is that our executive coach to Tres Rocas right there?" The blond pointed over to a colorful bus surrounded by people.
"It is, smart-ass," Mike responded. "Hey. We have a deal, remember? You still owe me for that lost load."
"I'll remember, all right?" JJ nodded curtly before turning on his heels.
"Hey, JJ. Word of advice," Mike called out to him. "This ain't Kildare. Try and lay low."
"Sure thing, chief," JJ replied over his shoulder before checking to make sure the girls were following.
The Pogues made their way onto the crowded bus, squishing into a seat together, letting Liv sit in the middle. They ended up befriending the man in front of them, who was able to help them by drawing out a map.
"So right here, you have Tesoro. Up here, Orinoco, right?" The man spoke calmly as he traced his finger over the dust. "And they say up here, El Dorado."
"Who says?" Kiara looks to the man.
"All the world," The man shrugged.
"If all the world says it, why hasn't it been found?" Kiara queries.
The man sighed, "Some people say it doesn't exist. Some people say it's hidden, and only one very special person can find it."
"Uh-huh," JJ narrowed his eyes.
"But most people say it's maldito."
