••Maddie's POV••
"I wish Josh hadn't cheated on her. "
Today is my third cession with my new therapist. It's been about a week since my interview went viral and the paparazzi are crazier than ever.
"Why?" Dr. Kindle questions, as I look into her deep brown eyes.
"Because, this guy she's dated before...he's back now and--" I pause not wanting to give to much away, "I don't know. He doesn't deserve her and she thinks that he's everything. I just don't want to see her get hurt again."
"And you feel like if she dates this guy she will?"
I shift uncomfortably in my seat and shrug. I hate telling people how I feel.

Thirty minutes later I'm sitting at my computer, looking up stuff about Nicholas--who Jen insists I call Nick, but I refuse. I just don't feel comfortable with it.
Evidently he was born in Wokingham, United Kingdom on December 7, 1989. He's known for the movies Warm Bodies, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and About A Boy.
Other than that, he's a pretty boring guy. Why would Jen like him then?
There's a knock at my door, "W-who is it?" My voice quivers a bit.
"It's me!" Jen replies as I release a breath. "Can I come in?"
"Yeah, go ahead!" I stay seated at my computer.
"Whatcha doing?" Jen sits across from me on my bed.
I shrug.
She nods her head awkwardly, "Well Nick's making some spaghetti. " She looks at me, "So if your hungry?"
I nod my head, "I'll be down soon. "
She stands to leave, then spots the article I'm reading, "Wait--are you researching Nick!?"
I don't say anything.
"Madds," she puts a hand on my shoulder, "What's going on?"
"Nothing." I mumble, mentally punching myself in the face for not minimizing the screen.
She hugs me and says quietly, "You can tell me anything. " She waits a few seconds and sees that I'm not going to reply, "Well come downstairs in a few minutes for dinner. " She walks out of the room and shuts the door.
"Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. " I repeat loudly as I bang my head on my desk.
A few minutes later, I gather my thoughts and head downstairs.
Nicholas has been over a lot lately. At first, I kept mistaking him for Josh. Which is completely absurd, because Josh is way shorter than him.
"Hey Maddie," Nicholas waves me over to the dining room table, "want some spaghetti?"
I nod my head, but keep the frown on my face.
Dinner is, well how should I put this--awkward. Nicholas tries to start off a conversation with me, but I always reply with a one word answer, which almost always leaves us in silence.
Jen tries to get me to open up, but I do the same thing. Frankly, I just don't want to say anything with this guy around.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Jen give Nicholas a look as she stands and excuses herself to the bathroom. Once she leaves the room, Nicholas puts down his fork and glares at me.
I look at him innocently.
"Are you kidding me?" He says, gruffly.
"What?" I feel heat start to prickle at the back of my neck.
He pushes his chair back and takes a step behind me. I feel his breath on my ear as he whispers, "Maybe you should stop acting depressed and start acting like you are the happiest you have ever been. " He caressed my left cheek, "Do I make myself clear?"
I nod my head.
He slaps me across the face and whisper screams, "Do I!?"
"Y-yes sir. " I manage to choke out. I feel tears pinching in the corner of my eyes.
He moves close to my face, and says, "You better convince Jen that you like me," he changes his voice where it's barely audible, "or else. "
Jen walks in the room, "What's going on?"
Nicholas moves away from me and takes his seat, "Oh Maddie just had something in her eye, but we cleared it up. Right?"
I nod my head and say, "Right." A single tear escapes and I immediately wipe it away.
Anger and fear boils inside of me. I've got to tell Jen. No. I can't tell Jen. If Jen finds out, it will crush her.
This only means one thing, I've got to be brave.
For Jen.
