(21) Taking Action

••Maddie's POV••

I open Jen's trailer door and walk inside.

I peek inside the box and see Gemma caring for her puppies.

That's when I see a shadow approach.

I spin around to see Nicholas, with a smug look on his face.

I opened my mouth and closed it, unable to grab any words.

"Maddie." He says as he strokes my cheek.

He stepped forward, making me fall back onto the couch.

"It's a shame," he picked up my hand, "that me and Jen aren't together. I wonder...did you have anything to do with that?" He shut the door.

"I--," I start, but soon stopped when his hand met my cheek, with excessive force making me fall off the couch and onto the ground.

"I'm talking." He whispered then kicked me in the ribs.

Don't be afraid of him.

Josh's words came back to me, helping me regain my posture and stand up.

I remembered something I had watched in a movie once--Miss Congeniality.

I pulled every ounce of energy I had in my body and kicked him where the sun don't shine--if you know what I mean.

He hunched over and I punched him in the nose, blood smearing all over my hand.

To my surprise, Gemma jumped up and started attacking his foot.

I ran out the door and sprinted towards the greenroom.

I need help.

"Jena!" I screamed when I saw her walking, "I need help!"

"What is it?" She saw the blood, "Where are you hurt?"

I shake my head, "I'm--not--hurt." I said breathlessly, "Nicholas--he--hit--me--again."

"AGAIN?" She bellowed and put her arm around me. "We need to find Jen."

••Jen's POV••

Josh. I have him back now. He's mine.

I pull away from our kiss and smile.

"I need to go get my hair and makeup done."

"Do you have too?" He whined and kissed me again.

"Yes." I laughed, pulling away.

"Jennifer!" I heard Jena scream.

I looked at Josh, who had a confused look on his face.

We stepped out of the room and looked down the hallway. I saw Jena, and Maddie running towards us.

They came and I immediately saw blood all over Maddie's hand and some on her shorts.

"What happened?" My hands were instantly on her arms, holding her out so I can inspect her.

"Well--" she trailed off and looked at Jena.

"Nicholas isn't who you think he is." Jena blurted, with her eyes wide.

"What?" I snapped.

"He's been hitting Maddie." Jena explained, then stole a glance at her.

Oh my gosh.

"What?" I spun around and looked at Maddie, "Why didn't you tell me?"

Jena announced, "Security is already looking for him--he is probably still somewhere around set. The cops are on their way."

I saw Maddie shiver and my heart broke.

I hugged her and saw that she was crying.

"You're gonna be okay." I said softly.

"I'm going to kill him." Josh said, then darted off down the hallway.

"Not before I do." I muttered, not moving--I'm staying right here. With Maddie.

••Josh's POV••

I ran a hand through my sweaty hair, I need to find this guy. I've been searching for twenty minutes, but it's like he was never here.

Police officers were all around me--doing the same thing as me.

Searching.

What kind of sicko does that to a little girl?

I'm just thankful that she got out when she did--or he could've really hurt her.

I take a deep breath.

Filming has been canceled for the day, which is good, because I'm not filming until I find this guy.

I keep walking and soon, I find myself at the tree me and Maddie met up at earlier.

He has to be around him somewhere.

"Over here!" I heard an officer yell by a fence post.

I ran over and saw that we were on top of a hill and Nicks car was driving off into the distance.

"Put out a warrant for his arrest." The chief told another officer and then turned to me, "We will do everything we can to find him."

I nodded my head and sighed.

••Maddie's POV••

I look up at Jen--who's pacing back and forth.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She whispered.

I look away, tears pouring down my cheeks.

She stopped pacing and kneeled down in front of me, "How long has this been going on?" She whispered, tears slowly moving down her face.

I wipe my eyes, "Ever since you first started dating."

"Maddie." She covers her face with her hands, "Why? Why didn't you tell me?"

"He threatened me."

"I would've helped you."

"He threatened me. I didn't know what he was going to do." I spit out, letting my anger get ahold of me, "I'm sorry." I whisper.

She was silent for a few minutes, just looking at me, "You're gonna be okay." She hugged me, "I won't let him hurt you ever again."

I closed my eyes, listening to her words, repeating them in my head.

You're gonna be okay.

Will I?
