(41) The Dance

This chapter is dedicated to, Jennifer Lawrence. It's her 25th birthday today. Happy Birthday Jen!

"Maddie!" Jen yells.

I walk to my door, "Yeah?"

Jen runs in the room and does a happy dance.

"What the heck is wrong with you?" I say laughing a little.

Jen grabs my hand and twirls me. "I have some news," she sings.

I giggle again, "What is it?"

Jen smiles brightly, "You got the part!"

"What?" I bark, wondering if I heard her correctly. She smiles in reply. "I thought we wouldn't know until Monday!"

She shrugs her shoulders and laughs. "I just got off the phone with Patricia."

"My first lead role!" I scream and jump up and down excitedly.

Jen shakes her head laughing, "That's exactly why we should celebrate! You, me, and Josh...let's leave in ten minutes." She exits my room only to poke her head back in a few seconds later. "Oh and Patricia also gave me a list of the numbers of your co-stars--if you wanna give them a call."

I nod my head and begin to text Romeo the good news. He was very supportive when I told him I was auditioning.

I look down at the list Jen left on my bed. The first name I see is Kace Renolds. Huh. I've never heard of him. Well, I doubt he's heard of me either. I take a deep breath and dial the number next to his name.

"Hello?" I hear what I assume is Kace's voice answer. "Who's this?"

"Uh, it's Maddie Lawrence. I'm, um, Avia in the new Disney movie coming out. I think you are one of the co-stars?"

I hear a slight chuckle. "I sure am! It's nice to hear from you. Are you excited you got the part?"

"Yeah. It's a great opportunity and it will really help my career." I say, staring up at my ceiling.

"Uh huh. Same here." He says. "I haven't really done that much acting before, so I'm extremely grateful to have landed this role." His voice is soothing.

"Yeah." I reply.

There's an awkward silence that lingers for a few seconds.

He starts to talk, "It really is an honor to be working with someone who has as much talent as you do."

I feel heat rush to my cheeks and I'm grateful that he can't see me.

"Thank you, but I haven't done very much acting--at all." I clear my throat, "I'm sure you are amazing."

He chuckles again, "Whatever, but I know you're amazing and very beautiful."

This guy sure knows how to charm a girl.

I laugh a little, "I should go...I have a few other people I need to call."

"Okay--see you in a few weeks, Maddie." He says.

I smile, "See you in a few weeks, Kace."

"To Maddie," Jen says while she raises her milkshake. Josh raises his and I raise mine. "For her first lead role as an actress."

"To Maddie." Josh repeats and winks at me.

We cling the glasses together and all take a sip of the creamy goodness.

After we finish our glasses, Josh pays the waitress, leaves a tip, and we all head out to Jen's car. Surprisingly--note the sarcasm--we have a few guests waiting for us.
