•Maddie's POV•

"You seem alright." Dr. Kendall says, returning to her desk. "I think the reason Madison passed out, is like I said on the phone." She tells Jen, "It was most likely her minds way of reliving stress."

My mom nods, "If she doesn't remember on her own..."

Dr. Kendall sighs, "Jog her memory. If she doesn't remember after a few days, you should tell her." She says like I'm not even there.

After we leave her office, we decide to go have lunch. We have a nice meal and I avoid begging Jen to tell me what I can't remember. I'll work on that tonight.

I change my mind once we get home. I decide I want to know now.

"Tell me," I stare at her. "Please."

She sighs and motions for me to sit at the counter.

She paces the kitchen floor and sets her purse down, grabbing a photograph. "You passed out after Mr. Rick showed you this picture of your birth mom...you said that you had seen her before."

I take the photograph from her hands and stare long and hard at it. The rim of her nose, her big eyes, and her perfectly defined cheekbones--I had seen all of these features before. It may have been dark, but I'm positive.

"This is the lady that came outside after you left," I say, looking at Jen, who will always be my true mother. "I've already met her."

She nods her head, "I was afraid of that."

"Why?" I push the photo away, "Why did she come find me and not tell me who she was?"

Jen shrugs, "Maybe it was out of guilt...maybe she just wanted to talk to you and see if you were happy."

Josh walks in the back door. He sees our expressions, "You told her."

Jen nods her head and walks to the stairs, "She deserves to know."
