••Jen's POV••

When I get back to set, I head to my trailer and start to cry.

I feel so bad about sending Maddie away, but I need to do what's best for her. Her education is important.

I lay down on the small, but comfortable couch that's in my trailer and bury my face in a pillow, letting all my tears escape.

I hear a knock on the door.

I ignore it and stay silent, but another knock comes.

I stand and swing open the door to see Josh, with a sad expression on his face. "How did she take it?"

I wrap my arms around him and bury my face in his chest, "Not good. She cried so much and--" I start to sob.

"Shhh it's okay, baby. It will all be okay." he smooths my hair.

I look up to his eyes, "Josh--I'm scared."

He sits down on the couch and pulls me down with him, "Why?"

"Because," I sigh, "Nick is still out there." I pause and take a deep breath. The police are still searching for him, but so far there has been no news about his whereabouts.

"Maddie just had a seizure--she's expected to have more and I know she's scared about school. I just want her to be safe--I just want to be with her."

"Why did you make her go?" He stares into my eyes, fully knowing the answer.

"She needs her education and I know it's best for her."

"See. You did what was best for her and that's all that matters. You'll see her in a few weeks." He kisses my forehead.

"Yeah but--" I stop.

"What?" He questions.

"What if we grow apart?" I whisper.

"Jen, Maddie loves you. It's not like you won't talk at all these next few weeks. It's only for a few weeks." He clarifies.

I nod my head, silently repeating Josh's words over in my mind.

••Maddie's POV••

I open my eyes and look around.

The man beside me is still on his laptop, typing away.

I sigh and look out the window.

The sky is massive, but yet it feels so small. It almost feels--empty.

I look back towards the man. He glances up and smirks, probably wondering why a kid like me is in first class.

None of the apps on my phone are working, because they all require wifi. I don't really feel like watching a movie either.

I press the call button in front of me.

A flight attendant comes up to me instantly, "May I help you Miss. Lawrence?"

"Uh yes. Can I get some paper and crayons?" I ask, wondering how she knew my name.

She nods her head and walks away, to only return seconds later with the supplies.

"Thank you." I said quietly.

I put down the food tray or whatever you call it and begun writing my name over and over on a piece of paper.

The man stops typing and looks at me, "You're Madison Lawrence?"

Startled, I nod my head and return back to my drawing.

"My daughter is a huge fan of yours."

I look up smiling, "Really?"

He smiles back, "Yeah. She admires you for overcoming what you've been through. She has," He pauses and looks down, "She has Stage Three Leukemia cancer."

My smile soon fades, "I'm sorry."

He nods his head and returns back to his laptop.

"Would you like me to sign something for her? I could make her a card?"

He looks at me astonished, "I think she would like that, thank you."

"What's her name?" I ask.

"Annie." He smiles.

"Annie." I repeat and smile as I quietly get to work.

I decorate the card and write her a note inside of it. Happy with the finished product, I hand it to the man.

He thanks me and asks for a picture. I gladly allow it and then I hear an announcement that says we're about to land.

Forty-five minutes later, I was pushing my way through the crowd of people, trying to spot Jen's parents.

After a few minutes of looking around I see Karen and Gary waving me over.

I sigh and walk over to them.

Karen hugs me, "I'm so happy we get to have you for the next few weeks!"

"Me too." I say, not intending to sound so sarcastic.

"I'm sorry, I know you miss Jen."

"It's okay." I reply quietly, not wanting to talk about it.

We start walking towards the exit and Gary turns to me, "Did Jen over ever tell you some of the crazy stuff she did as a kid?"

"Not really."

He laughs and starts telling me these crazy stories about the stuff Jen did when she was younger.

A few hours later I'm sitting on a bed in an unfamiliar room that I will be staying in for the next few weeks.

We stopped by the house to pick up some of my clothes and I just finished hanging them all up.

I look at my phone and see a few texts from Jen and decide to call her.

After about five rings she picks up, "Hello?"

"Mom?"

She yawns, "Hey, Madds how was your flight?"

"Good--did I wake you up?" I bite my lip. I totally forgot about the time change. No wonder I felt so tired.

"Yeah, but it's okay." She's quiet for a few seconds, "Are you at mom and dads new house?"

"Yeah." I lay back on the bed.

She yawns again, "Is it nice?"

I inspect my cuticles, "It's alright, I guess."

"I miss you Maddie." She says softly.

"I miss you too, Mom." I hear my voice crack and take a deep breath, "I should go, I'm pretty tired."

"Okay, I love you. Tell Karen I said hi." She added.

"Love you too."

After I ended the call, I got up and changed into a pair of pajama shorts and a tank top.

I let my hair down and got into bed.

A few minutes later, Karen knocked lightly on the door before cracking it open, "Just making sure you were going to sleep." She walked in, "Did you talk to Jen?"

"Yes and she told me to tell you hi."

She smiled slightly, "Okay, well I was thinking since me and Gary are here on vacation--would you like to go to the beach tomorrow?"

I smiled, "Sounds great."

"Well, then you'll need your rest." She kissed my forehead, "Goodnight."

She turned off the light and shut the door behind her.
