Third-person P.O.V.
Cade, Izzy, Vivien, and Tessa dread the challenge their friends are dealing with. Crosshairs goes for a walk in the woods until he reaches the river, where he sits on a large boulder and watches the current flow.
Drift couldn't meditate for long before concern about Jamie makes it hard to meditate. He tries to distract himself by watching T.V., but it's impossible; he has to stay with Jamie.Drift is happy Jamie is awake when he walks in. He tries to get her out of bed, but depression is still strong.
I can easily get her out of bed, and she won't fight me, but I don't want to force her. He thinks as he strokes Jamie's hair. He struggles not to get angry while seeing how much Sunstreaker hurt Jamie. He signs and leaves the room. He meets Crosshairs at the top of the stairs. Crosshairs knows Drift is still furious and sad; he hugs Drift before leading him back to Jamie's room. The two mechs don't want to force Jamie to do anything, but her terrible eating habits lately concern them.
"We need to do something about this," Crosshairs tells Drift as they stand by the door, "she will not fight us as we carry her downstairs. I know we agreed to not force with the gurus, but how long before we may need to consider putting a feeding tube in?"
Drift already hates putting one in when they need to. He sighs, goes to the bed, and picks Jamie up. Jamie rests her head on his shoulder as the two mechs leave the room.Crosshairs' P.O.V.
This is why Sunstreaker being Jamie's friend, will not work out. He can act tough like he's ok mentally, but Jamie can't; she falls apart. To Sunstreaker, it's a weakness. It's dangerous for Sunstreaker to see this stage of Jamie's depression. This is — or was — what she does when she gives up and wants to die. I don't know if she's going to hurt herself again. I don't think we're returning to N.E.S.T. — at least without being ordered to return.Sunstreaker's P.O.V.
I finished reading the files; for some reason, both Ratchet and Prime wanted to ask me questions as if it's a pop quiz with added questions unrelated to what I read but what I'll do. I've never worried about there being wrong answers until today. Is that why Crosshairs, Drift, and Jamie have been gone a week!? Come to think of it, that femme, Lightning, hasn't been around. After my "pop quiz", they wanted to talk to Sideswipe.Later, Sideswipe tells me Ratchet and Prime talked to several Autobots. It's hard not to worry that they are talking about something else related to Crosshairs, Drift, and Jamie. The three have been gone for a week.
I wonder why Ratchet and Prime asked the others about me and Jamie. I know I pissed off Crosshairs and Drift to the point they'd like it if I never see Jamie again. I have to talk to them.
Sideswipe's P.O.V.
Figures, Sunstreaker now likes my idea, but he went too far, scaring Jamie. Crosshairs and Drift don't trust him, and I won't be much help since Jamie thinks Sunstreaker will yell at us if we do something together.I've been showing Sunstreaker some art Jamie has done this month. We're debating getting her to work on art and have Sunstreaker join her quietly ten minutes later, but will she sense he's there? Plus, we have to talk to Crosshairs and Drift.
Sunstreaker's P.O.V.
Figures here's something to do with Jamie. It could have been a good idea while Jamie thought she better avoid me, but now it's too late. I'm certain she sensed my presence in the training room that day. I dread my only option is to give up.Heading to the training room, I see Jamie walking toward me. The Autobots who are around are concerned. A few seconds pass before Ratchet and Prime are running down the hall. Crosshairs and Drift run through a portal and activate their holoforms, but Crosshairs suggests standing down for now. Drift is a fragging wreck watching Jamie walk towards me, but he stays where he is. I remove my gun holster and knife, sliding them towards Sideswipe. Aware I might regret this decision, but everyone sees I'm now unarmed.
"Well, Sunstreaker, thank you for helping me realize I'm a worthless piece of shit. I don't know why Prime let me be part of the Autobots."
By now, tears roll down her face. She's not going to be able to continue for much longer. I'm amazed no one's jumping in, telling her this is scrap,
" I should have called this adventure over after I realized I have a fucking condition that causes everyone stress and fear."
Jamie falls to her knees and cries. The others watch like they're silently saying I should do something. Crosshairs has a hold on Drift by his arm, but Drift isn't trying to break free. I walk up to her and pick her up, expecting her to fight me. She's lighter than I thought she'd be. I hug her close to me as she continues to cry. She has to know who just picked her up and is hugging her, right?
The Autobots who know Jamie well, and even the newcomers who just know I scared her smile at this scene. Even Crosshairs and Drift are happy to see this. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do now. Do I dare talk to her, or will doing so ruin this?A few minutes pass before everyone but Crosshairs, Drift, Prime, Ratchet, and Sideswipe leave.
"Nice going," Sideswipe smiles.
"She knows who's got her," Prime tells me.
I feel happy Jamie is letting me hold her, but I hate how I got to this point. There's work still ahead. She's ok now, but she's upset.
"You're ok. I'm sorry I scared you."
I don't know what else to say; she doesn't trust me. I hope Crosshairs and Drift know I apologize to them as well.
Now isn't a good time to tell her I read her file.
"Are you just going to stand there all day?" Sideswipe jokes.
Drift looks at Jamie, which gets me expecting her to freak out.
"Come on, she should be fine with you holding her while we have breakfast," he assures me.
I'm doing as he tells me. He'd know if Jamie would be mad or not if I have Jamie sit on me, though this will be interesting trying to eat. I don't know if I'll ruin this by having her sit beside me instead.Drift's P.O.V.
This should be considered a step in the right direction in repairing this mess, but how long before Sunstreaker is disgusted with Jamie's emotional and mental struggle?
"He told me he read everything," Sideswipe tells me.
Jamie's emotional and mental struggle is bad enough, but her condition is another challenge. I don't see this working out, even if Sunstreaker didn't scare her. I can tell Crosshairs is also uncertain about this. I hope Prime, Ratchet, and Sideswipe know what we'll be dealing with.
