Ch. 26 Race

Knockout's P.O.V.
I should have known the second I told Jamie I wanted to do something with her she'd suggest a race with Bumblebee. I don't know if she knows Blurr, but he's busy on Cybertron. Jamie decides to be part of the race and gets her ATV.
Even though Cybertronian technology is advanced compared to Earth technology, I still can't believe a human in another dimension invented a way to carry anything in tiny capsules.
"I never understood why you ride with one of us when you have an ATV and motorcycle," Bee comments.

Bumblebee and I both demand she wears a helmet.
"You know how much trouble we'd be in if you got hurt," Bumblebee argues.
Jamie puts her helmet on.

We agree to let the twins and Jamie's guardians know what we're up to. We tell the twins where they can watch our race without being seen. This may help Sunstreaker's goal or be something fun for the twins to watch. Crosshairs and Drift are fine with this plan. We know we're taking a risk here; who knows how Jamie will react if she senses Sunstreaker is around. Hopefully, she'll be distracted focusing on the race.

The race track is closed today, and we can get in. We decided to do a twenty-lap race which would be about an hour-long race.

Crosshairs and Drift are eager to see Jamie's skills on the track. Crosshairs stands at the edge of the track and fires his gun. The three of us speed off. I quickly realize Jamie's ATV is much slower than Bumblebee and I are. We've just made an unfair race, yet Bumblebee said nothing.
:: Bumblebee, you forget Earth vehicles are much slower than us. ::
:: You'll see how it's not a problem, but let's slow down for half the race. It's supposed to be just for fun, anyway. ::
We cap our speed at 250 mph. Jamie's ATV is fast enough to keep up with us.

Fifteen laps in, Bumblebee and I decide it's time to pick up the speed.

Jamie's P.O.V.
I knew they were holding back. Guess they didn't see the unusual switch on my ATV. I flip the switch and activate the Energon boost.
I'm back to keeping up with them.

The race is almost over when I'm distracted by a figure in a tree. I don't sense any new energy signatures. I need to focus on the race.

Drift's P.O.V.
It's a good race. I knew Jamie would eventually use Energon boost, but my enjoyment turns to horror as I watch her crash. Bumblebee and Knockout turn around as the twins climb down from the tree they watched from and rush over. Crosshairs and I rush over. My mind thinks of every injury Jamie could have.

Ratchet's P.O.V.
I text Prime to get here with backup to get Crosshairs and Drift out of here, not knowing the twins are here. I hate how Prime ordered Jamie's guardians to return to the base with the others. Ironhide takes Jamie's ATV back with them.
Jolt had already put a neck brace on and removed Jamie's helmet. We work carefully but quickly to get Jamie ready for transport.

I was expecting the others to be by the medbay, but no one is around. 
"This is unusual," Jolt comments.
How many bots are keeping Drift from running over here? I hate there's nothing I can do to help him heal from the trauma of watching Jamie come close to death several times, watching her fight for her life. It's hard not to be overprotective of Jamie, and I think their close relationship makes it harder for him to remember his femme is a tough fighter who's been through worse than today.

Jamie only has a broken wrist and many cuts, some of which need stitches. Jamie has been out for twenty minutes. She wakes up as Jolt wraps her wrist. She's still out of it, but I watch her eyes look around. Jolt injects pain relief while I go find Crosshairs and Drift.

I watch Bumblebee, Crosshairs, Drift, and Knockout head into the lounge room. Drift is calm but clearly worried. I'm sure they all are.

"I shouldn't have agreed to watch the race. Jamie sensed me and panicked," Sunstreaker tells Sideswipe before walking down the hall. 

I leave everyone alone for an hour. By then, Jamie's ATV was fully inspected. Bumblebee, Crosshairs, Drift, Ironhide, Jolt, Knockout, Prime, Wheeljack, and I meet in the hangar. Jolt could have stayed in the medbay, but he wanted to hear what Wheeljack discovered. The terror twins walk in before Wheeljack can tell us his findings. Prime didn't tell them to leave. First, I tell them about Jamie's injuries.
"Jamie woke up but went back to sleep," I inform the others, "she's ok; only a broken wrist, several cuts and scratches."
"Damn, we were joking when we told her to get her helmet, knowing Crosshairs and Drift would be mad at us if she got hurt..." Knockout comments.
"We're not mad, Knockout," Crosshairs assures him, "you two made sure Jamie didn't end up with serious injuries."

"I'll get to the point," Wheeljack says, "sabotage."
No one could believe what he told us. Most of us here suspect Jadin is behind this, but Crosshairs and Drift don't. They don't know the twins saw Jadin on their revenge mission. The anger on Drift's face as he looks at Sunstreaker.
"YOU DID THIS!!" he yells as he tries to attack, but Knockout and Crosshairs stop him. Jolt rushes to the medbay as I watch Drift struggle to break free.
"Go, Sunstreaker," Prime orders, " he's not going to listen to you right now."
Sunstreaker leaves as Jolt rushes back into the hangar and injects Drift with the quick relaxant we created. It takes five minutes rather than taking twenty minutes to kick in. Drift is enraged and likely wouldn't calm down easily.
"Take him to the medbay, in the same room as Jamie," I instruct Crosshairs and Knockout.

Sunstreaker's P.O.V.
"Are you ok?" Sideswipe asks as we walk down the hall towards our room.
"No, I hate how Drift thinks I hurt Jamie. Someone wrecked her ATV. Someone had to have known she was going to use it soon, knew Jamie would think there was no reason to inspect her ATV. I wonder if they figured she wouldn't wear a helmet. Thank Primus Bee and Knockout got her to wear one; otherwise, she'd be seriously injured, and everyone would hate me. Someone here has to know about Jamie and those capsules since that's where Jamie kept her ATV. I think I'm officially not allowed near Jamie, but she's in danger, and I will protect her."
