Ch. 43 Figuring Out Treatment

Jolt's P.O.V.
It's hard preparing for both the poison treatment and brain surgery.
"We're going to need help. I just wish it wasn't something this serious to call Jasmine back..."
Oh boy, does she have a lot to catch up on.
"....I know we decided you'd come back when your cousins return to school, but...we need your help with a patient."
Ratchet really struggles to tell Jasmine to come back.

"Y-you want me to help with brain surgery? I'm not trained to do that, Ratchet!" Jasmine argues.
"No, we'll need help before and after the surgery."
Ratchet already dreads bringing Jasmine to the medbay

Jasmine's P.O.V.
It's been a long time, but I know I'm looking at Jamie, unconscious in an Autobot's holoform's arms.
"Drift, I need to start treatment," Ratchet explains, not liking he has to take Jamie from Drift's arms. Drift and I haven't properly met,  but I hug him once Ratchet takes Jamie from him and lies Jamie on the bed in the room. Jolt walks in to help with treatment. Something serious is happening for Drift not to care a stranger is hugging him.

Sunstreaker's P.O.V.
"Lily is having fun on vacation with her friend before school," Luke tells me, "they'll be back tomorrow, and she asks when she can come back to base. It's been a challenge telling her no," he sighs, "I-I don't know."
"I know it'll be months before I am possibly friends with Jamie..."
I walk away. Nothing I say will change his mind. Threatening him will only prove he's right about Lily needing to stay away from me. I don't blame him for debating breaking his sister's heart to protect her. Lily will probably be busy preparing to return to school to be able to come here.

I feel lost; I suck at comforting, so it's pointless to go back to the medbay, but if I don't, that could be used against me as a reason to be sent to Diago Garcia. I don't know what the situation is on Cyberton. How much has been rebuilt.

"What troubles you, Sunstreaker?" Optimus asks.
"I screwed up everything. Now Jamie is dying. Luke is reconsidering letting Lily near me."
"Unfortunately, Jadin would have found a way to get Jamie to her even if she didn't infiltrate Mirage's case. This is complicated, but I have talked to Luke. You understand Lily might not be back here for a while, and you need to focus on your relationship with Jamie and her guardians?"
"Yes."
Should I be thinking about that? Or worried we'll be planning a memorial? It's hard to put my thoughts about Lily aside, the thought that her brother is considering keeping her away from me. Optimus knows, and I feel like he told Luke to wait.

I watch Crosshairs and Lighting lead Drift down the hall towards the cafeteria. Only some know what is going on, but he'll need support. Especially as he's told all the possible complications. Not sure if Ratchet will tell everyone.

Optimus Prime's P.O.V.
I don't like the news from Ratchet. Treatment for the poison will take five days, and we know how prepared Jadin is. She'll be ready to reactive the device. Even if Jadin can only influence nightmares, that's not great. There's a reason she's choosing this as her weapon.
".even though this is easier to treat than a flare-up, I don't know if we'll have enough time before that device is reactivated. Jadin knows to prepare for anything and likely has a security measure to cause harm as we try to remove the device," Ratchet finishes.
"You know it's dangerous to do something like surgery while a patient has an infection," Jasmine cuts in, "poison is the same. Even if we argue this is an emergency, do we want to take the chance?"
"I don't know what to do," Ratchet regrets.
I look at the monitor, knowing that these vitals mean Jamie is struggling with the poison. I know she's not strong enough for invasive surgery. I need to consult with Wheeljack. He can get an idea of what security Jadin could have programmed.

"Would you believe me if I said there are no security measures?" Wheeljack asks, showing me the papers Sunstreaker brought back from Jadin's hideout.
"No."
"Well, there isn't. Either Jadin thought surgery would be out of the question or hoping one last attack would do it."
"So, she could be attacking Jamie right now?"
Wheeljack nods. There's no way to know if Jadin is attacking her. From what we can guess, Whatever Jadin would be saying, Jamie would be crying, but she can't while sedated.
"I'm not a medic, but it won't make a difference if they do the surgery now or wait until the poison is cleared out. I'd wait until the poison is cleared myself. Less of a risk, and even if Jadin isn't attacking right now, Jamie's mental state wasn't good before she left for the mission with Mirage," Wheeljack tells me.

"I'm going to wait then," Ratchet concludes, "even though she's unconscious, they'll have more time with her while we wait for poison treatment to work."
"Five days, though?" Jasmine asks, "damn it, she planned this well. If she's going to attack Jamie mentally for five days."
Ratchet sighs, "I know."
We look in the room. Drift holding Jamie while Crosshairs and Lightning sit by him. The three look like they were told Jamie will die soon. It's scary to think they could be saying goodbye to her. 
No matter what Jadin is saying, we'll have a challenge after the surgery. There's also still the situation Sunstreaker has to deal with. Supporting Jamie's guardians is actually a good step in this complicated process.

"You think now is a good time for me, a mech who is scrap with comforting others, to be with them?" Sunstreaker asks.
"This is complicated, but being with those three will help them trust you. There will likely still be issues after Jamie recovers, but not as bad as now."
"Look at it this way; showing Luke not to break Lily's heart," Sideswipe adds.
"What good will that be when I'm sent to Diago Garcia?" Sunstreaker asks, "Jamie's guardians and sister hate me. Jamie thinks I hate her and is considering ending the adventure. I don't think I can fix this."
"And I find it hard to believe you're giving up after all the work you did to get Lily to like you again, and she loves you," Sideswipe comments, "I can't believe Jamie's guardians have to go through this again. I hope Lightning doesn't have to watch Jamie fight for her life. I know even if all goes as well as things can when it's brain surgery, Crosshairs and Drift will still worry about her."
