Ratchet's P.O.V.
Two days pass before Crosshairs and Drift wake up. Drift is displeased. Jamie is still in a coma. Crosshairs is also struggling while trying to act like he's doing better than Drift as he watches Drift lie back on the bed, facing the wall. He sighs as he sits on the other bed. It's hard to know what to do; it's not a good idea to force Drift to get up, and I don't think he cares if he ends up in stasis from lack of Energon again. Is letting him stay in bed and continue giving Energon via IV a good idea?
"This isn't like him," Jolt comments, "actually they're both off."
"I don't blame them after what they've been through. Even though the ventilator is on assisted breathing mode rather than doing all the work. This is why they can't know Jadin is back. Trust Optimus when he says these two will be prepared to fight Jadin and Protect Jamie."Lighting walks in twenty minutes later. She knows not to tell Crosshairs and Drift anything. I let her try to get Drift to get off the bed.
"Drift, I know it's hard, but you can't neglect yourself like this. You know Jamie would hate to know you're doing this."
She is also talking to Crosshairs about this. We didn't know they'd end up in stasis as quickly as they did. Now we know and want to keep them from going into stasis again.
The twins walk in, and while they'd like to help, I tell them to wait in my office.
"Show him the blood test results," Jolt insists, handing me the results of the daily blood tests I've been doing. I would do blood tests once a week unless there's a sign of something new that would require a blood test, but with her condition, I want to make sure the chemical level isn't rising. That's all we need to deal with.Drift is so depressed; he doesn't care that Crosshairs and I have to treat him like Jamie is when she's like this to get him to sit at the edge of the bed, allowing Crosshairs and I to sit on the bed.
"Look, Jamie is getting better. I've been doing extra blood tests to monitor the chemical level," I explain.
Jamie's levels have been a little low and have taken longer than average lk to return to normal.
I leave the room, closing the door, to talk to Jolt. We have yet to discuss the results and any possible changes in Jamie's treatment.Jolt looks at the results while I check Jamie's vitals and listen to her lungs. Jolt walks into the room five minutes later.
"Well?" Jolt asks.
"I think she's ready," I tell him.Jolt's P.O.V.
I'd like to tell Drift what I'm doing, but waiting until I know, Jamie does well on a Venturi mask will be better. Then he can hold her. Perhaps this is when her short size is handy, though I don't think Drift cares.
I still can't believe soldiers did this to you.
I get what I need to care for Jamie before setting the ventilator for a spontaneous breathing trial.
Let's see if you can do well for an hour.Ratchet's P.O.V.
I doubt Drift will leave the room, so I have the twins come into the room. Everyone but Jolt is worried until I assure them it's good news. They're happy to hear we will begin to take Jamie off the ventilator and then end the coma. Crosshairs and Drift tell me to go ahead and tell the twins about Jamie while Crosshairs gets food for Drift and himself. I only told the twins a little of Jamie's history.Sunstreaker's P.O.V.
It's hard not to get angry hearing what Jamie has dealt with since she was nine and how adults chose to deal with the scrap she dealt with. How it was a challenge to help Jamie without being discovered. Even with all her friends across dimensions, Jamie felt alone and still does, even though she can see all her friends whenever she wants to mow. Probably a good thing she turned eighteen before the humans betrayed us, and she didn't have to go back to her dimension for school, not knowing if we were ok. No question things would have been different if that was the case.
"...she is used to keeping to herself and still feels alone even though she's been with at least Crosshairs and Drift most of the time for the past eight years."
"You see why I say she's like you?" Sideswipe asks.
"But instead of anger and hurting people, Jamie keeps to herself until she can't hide what she's been keeping bottled up. From what Crosshairs and Drift have told us, she'd start crying out of nowhere. There are days when it's clear she's muddling through and some days she pushes everyone away. With all this, it seems impossible she's part of our ranks, fighting in the war, but she can get past whatever she's feeling and fight," Ratchet explains.
With nothing else to say about Jamie and Jolt working on the next step in Jamie's recovery, Sides and I go to our room."I told you she's like you, and you two could be good friends," Sideswipe chirps as he sits on his bed.
"I don't know, Sideswipe. I feel things will be worse between us when she wakes up."
