Chapter 41

Dino is staring at the water in shock. Their enemy just disappeared into the dark surface of the lake, just like Jeonghan and that psychopath did. Dino sure wants to feel sad for Chan's death, but he can't. This man has already broken enough, he will never get mercy from the brunette. So the only thing Dino feels right now, is relief. Relief that it's finally over, they're finally safe and they finally got Chan, although the male is now dead. The whole team are standing on the jetty, all 8 of them are staring at each other in silence. Except for Scoups, who walks over to the end of the jetty to look into the water. Maybe he's trying to find Chan to make sure that he's dead. Out of all people, Scoups should be relieved the most that this hell is finally over. But the black-haired leader only kneels down, really trying to find his enemy. Dino glances at Wonwoo confused, but the male with glasses can't give him an answer.
"What is he doing?" Dino asks Joshua eventually. Maybe the black-haired male knows the answer, he knows Scoups for a while. Joshua looks at Dino, but lifts his shoulders soon after.
"I don't know. Maybe he's grieving."
"Why would he grieve?" Dino asks confused. Joshua wants to give him an answer, but gets cut off by Scoups who falls into the water out of the sudden. The whole team runs towards the end worried, but there's no sign of their leader.
"Why did he jump in like that!?" Mingyu asks in disbelief.
"He jumped in!?" Dino asks and the others just look at the two helpless. Right at the time Dino wants to jump in, Scoups' head breaks through the surface and the leader gasps for air.
"Scoups! What are you doing!?" Dino yells and the others reach out to their leader, trying to give him a hand, but the black-haired male doesn't even try to get out of the water.
"Give me something to cut metal open!" Scoups yells back and everyone looks at the black-haired male confused.
"What?" Wonwoo asks in disbelief.
"Just give me it!" Scoups yells firmly and some people run off to get something out of their bag, but no one has a useful tool.
"Here!" Joshua yells while he's holding up a rock.
"You can't just hand him a rock!" Dino yells shocked and Joshua looks at him surprised.
"I'm not going to give him this rock," Joshua says firmly, which causes Dino to sigh in relief, "I'm going to throw it." Before Dino can even react, the rock is already flying in the air, reaching Scoups' hand. The leader struggles to keep his head above the surface while catching the rock, but he succeeds and he smiles at Joshua thankful.
"What in the world does he need a rock for!?" Dino asks confused as Scoups disappeares into the water again.
"I think that I know what Scoups is planning", Joshua sighs and Wonwoo nods in agreement.
"Same", the male with glasses adds and Dino blinks in surprise.
"Tell us then!" Mingyu yells curiously. But before anyone can answer, Scoups rises up and he gasps for air. Dino can't believe what he sees right now: Chan is with him and the evil male is looking the brunette dead in the eye. It scares Dino and he doesn't understand why Scoups decides to rescue his own enemy.
"Oh god, is that Chan?" Jun asks in disbelief and everyone nods while Scoups reaches the jetty again. Like a bag of potatoes, Scoups throws Chan on the wooden jetty, which causes everyone to take some steps back in disgust. Afraid that Chan might wake up out of the sudden, Dino hides himself behind Joshua subtly while Scoups' voice echoes through the air.
"Can someone give me a hand, please?" his voice comes from behind the jetty, but because of Chan laying between them, no one dares to move. Dino can hear the leader sigh as Scoups grabs the edge with his hands and pulls himself up grunting. His whole body is soaking wet and his eyes are red, as if he cried. But why would Scoups cry over Chan?
"Thanks for helping, guys", Scoups mumbles sarcastically and he walks over to the others. Mingyu is quick to hand his leader his hoodie and Dino curses at himself for not thinking about that sooner. After a short silence, Joshua is finally able to speak up.
"Scoups, what is this?" he asks carefully and Dino looks at his leader expectingly.
"I think that's obvious," the black-haired leader responds, "I got Chan out of the water." Joshua nods and Dino looks at the black-haired male in surprise. Is he going to give up this easily?
"He's dead, right?" Seungkwan asks scared and Scoups places his fingers on Chan's wrist.
"Yes, he is", Scoups states. His voice sounds a bit sad, but Dino decides to ignore it. Instead, the brunette looks at Chan, examining his body to make sure that this isn't a trap. But Chan's eyes stare at the sky without seeing anything, his chest isn't rising and his lips are blue. This man is dead, he's finally dead. Dino sighs relieved and it feels like a lot of weight just fell off of his shoulders.
"So uhh," Vernon breaks the silence, "what are we going to do with him now?" Vernon points at Chan and Scoups stares at his enemy for a while before answering.
"I'm going to bury him", Scoups responds and the whole team stares at their leader shocked.
"What!?" Dino yells in disbelief, but Scoups' look in his eyes make the brunette shut his mouth soon after.
"I'm going to bury Chan, whether you like it or not. You're free to come with me, but don't see it as a must", Scoups informs the group and Dino sighs.
"I'll go with you", Jun says firmly and both Vernon and Seungkwan nod in agreement. Scoups smiles at the three males thankful before he turns his head towards the others.
"I'm sorry but I can't do that. He has taken too much from me", Wonwoo says as he takes a step back. With a small apology, Mingyu follows his roommate. Now only Joshua and Dino have to decide and the brunette has no clue what to do.
"I'm sorry", Joshua says while he takes a step back as well. Dino can't help but notice a tiny bit of hurt in his leader's eyes, which makes the decision even more difficult. While looking at the ground, Dino takes a step back as well. He simply can't bury someone he hates this much. The brunette didn't even know that it was possible to hate someone like this. Scoups nods and wants to leave, but Dino runs towards him and grabs his hand. The two males are now standing a few feet away from the others, so they can't hear them.
"What is it?" Scoups asks, his voice sounds a bit bored.
"Why are you doing this?" Dino asks, trying to keep his anger down.
"Why wouldn't I?" Scoups responds, looking at the brunette confused.
"He is your enemy! He doesn't deserve to be buried, he's literally the worst person on this planet!" Dino yells devestated and Scoups blinks, probably to hide his tears.
"If you aren't ready to show your enemy mercy, then how are you any better than him?" Scoups asks after clearing his troath. Dino stares at his leader startled and clenches his fists. How dare Scoups compare Dino to Chan? They're nothing alike, right? Biting his lip, Dino runs off towards the others and he looks at Scoups, who picks up Chan's body and walks over to the park to find a nice spot.
"You allright?" Wonwoo asks softly and Dino shrugs.
"Let's just go home", the brunette answers angry and they all leave towards Dino's apartment.

The whole way towards his apartment was silent, it terrified Dino but he thinks that maybe, this is what they needed. Some time to reflect everything, it's not usual that your enemy suddenly dies. Dino lets himself fall down on the couch while Joshua is making some coffee for himself. Wonwoo and Mingyu seat themselves at the table and start talking about stupid things as if nothing has happened. Dino sighs and stares at the wall. His mind is not letting him rest at the moment because his thoughts are racing once again. Why is Scoups suddenly so emotional? Why does he care so much and will he ever see the good thing in this? Will he be depressed or will he be happy? Does Scoups really think that Dino acts like Chan?
"Tell me what's wrong", Joshua pulls Dino out of his thoughts and the brunette looks up confused.
"That wasn't a question, it was a demand", the black-haired male adds and Dino scoffs.
"Why do you care?" the brunette sees Joshua's eyes soften and the black-haired male sighs.
"You're quiet", Joshua answers and Dino chuckles.
"Isn't that normal?" Dino asks and Joshua stares at the brunette.
"In your case, it's not", he states and Dino sighs while he leans back against the couch.
"I just don't understand Scoups", Dino mumbles and Joshua nods slowly.
"Are you jealous that he's giving Chan attention right now and not you?" Joshua asks jokingly but stops laughing when he notices Dino's look.
"Sorry", he mumbles, "but what is it that you don't understand?" Dino sighs, how is he going to explain it all?
"I don't get why Scoups wants to bury Chan so bad. He's his goddamn enemy, he should be happy!" Dino whines and Joshua clicks his tongue.
"I think that you're forgetting that Scoups and Chan had a past", Wonwoo says and Dino turns around to look at his friend. Apparently, Mingyu and him have been listening to the conversation.
"They used to be best friends", Mingyu adds.
"And you know that's something that never goes away", Joshua finishes and Dino looks at the males confused.
"Friendship can fade away. It can turn into hate or love", the brunette defends his point.
"Yes, but the friendship will stay somewhere inside of you. Why do you think that Chan didn't kill Scoups in the hospital? Or that Scoups didn't want to kill Chan at all? They still care for each other, Dino." Dino looks at Joshua shocked.
"That's bullshit! How can you even think like that! Scoups hates Chan and Chan hates Scoups!" Dino yells frustrated and Joshua sighs.
"Maybe they hate each other," Wonwoo states, "but something deep inside of them doesn't. And before you ask, there's nothing you can do about it. Yes, Scoups will mourn about it and no, he's not wrong for doing that. He has known Chan for as long as he can remember. Don't you think that it's valid if he still cared about him, even for a tiny bit?" Dino falls silent and licks his lips in thought. Maybe Wonwoo is right, maybe Dino shouldn't make such a big deal out of it.
"But it still feels wrong", Dino mumbles and Joshua places a hand on Dino's shoulder.
"I know it does, but the only thing that you can do is support Scoups. He's going to feel empty inside. His whole life, Chan has been there and now he suddenly isn't anymore. I think that it's pretty sweet of Scoups to still burry Chan. It shows that Scoups has mercy", Joshua says softly and Dino wants to say something back, but they get interrupted by Scoups who enters the apartment. The leader is soaking wet and he's shivering from the cold. Dino gets up to help him, but without a word, Scoups walks over to his room and slams the door shut behind him. Dino's heart breaks into peaces seeing his friend like that.
"I'll try my best to help him", Dino whispers and the others nod thankful.
"I'm going to investigate on the members of Stray kids who are still left, it's not over just yet", Joshua states quickly before they all leave Dino's apartment, leaving the brunette behind in shock. Joshua is right, there still are three members left and they are probably furious about their dead leader. It's not over just yet, the ending has only just begun.
