Chapter 11

Mari's POV

I walked out to the car with Lexi in my arms. She had somehow fallen asleep while we were at the doctors office. I slid her into her car seat, buckled her in, and drove home. Matt ran out and never came back. I'm sure he called one of the guys. He probably won't be coming back to the apartment tonight. I mean he's got Wes and Josh, or David, or Flitz. When we reached a red light, I slammed my head on the back of my seat. Why didn't I tell him sooner. I feel like such an idiot. "Mommy. Why are you banging your head". "No reason sweetie. It's ok". "Where's Daddy". She looked at me with such an innocent face. "He had to go to the office. He's hanging out with Uncle Wes and Uncle David". "Is he coming back". "I don't know sweetie. We'll see". We started driving again, and tears started to fall down my face. It hurt to lie to my little baby. Especially since I tell her all the time not to lie. We reached home, and no text or call from Matt. I mean, I'm not worried. He's got other people to hang out with. "Come on Lex. Lets go make dinner". We got out of the car and walked up the stairs to our 5th floor apartment. I opened the door to our blue apartment, with our black carpet. Lexi went into her room, most likely to play with her dolls. I sat down on the gray couch, with our purple throw pillows. I'm glad I could keep some of my original furniture. "Lexi. Can you come here". I called for her to sit next to me. She didn't come out. "Lexi"? I walked down the hall towards her room. Before I even reached her door, I knew something was off. I walked into her room, and I saw Lexi collapsed on her floor, right next to Sleeping Beauty. How ironic. "Lexi". I ran over to her and shook her. "LEXI"! I picked her up and ran to the phone. "911 What's your emergency"? "My daughter collapsed and she isn't waking up". I could feel the tears coming down. "It's ok honey. An ambulance will be there in a few minutes. Don't worry". I hung up and then worried about calling Matt. Would he care, or not answer. I called him anyway. "Hi you have reached my voicemail. Leave a message and I'll call you back". "Matt, its me. Lexi's passed out, she isn't waking up. An ambulance is coming, she's going to the hospital. If you care at all, come by and take care of her. I love you regardless". I hung just as the ambulance got to our home. They took her away on a stretcher, and I trailed behind. I got into my car and speed down the street right behind the ambulance.
