Chapter 13

Mari's POV

I walked into Lexi's room, glad that I had Matt next to me. I looked at her sleeping on her bed, looking adorable as usual. I slipped my sweatshirt off because it was really warm. "I forgot about your scars" I heard Matt say. "For a minute, so did I". He walked over to me and gave me a hug. Wes then walked in. "Hey Wes. What are you doing here". "I came in with Matt. He needed a ride here". "Why didn't you ask David or Josh, or Ianthony". Wes looked over at Matt. "Can I tell her". Matt nodded his head. "What's going on". "I love Lexi. Like she's my own kid. I wouldn't let anything hurt her, and I kinda wanted to be here for her". I went over and hugged him. He hugged me back. Then Matt came up behind me and hugged me. Wow did this seem familiar too. "Mommy". I ran over to Lexi's bed, giving her a light kiss on the forehead. Matt came over on the other side and gave her a light hug. "Daddy" she said as she hugged him back. Wes stayed there until they said that he had to leave. "Bye Wes. Thank you for being here. See you tomorrow". I walked up and hugged him. "Bye Mari. Bye Matt. Love you Lex". Lexi waved good bye before falling asleep. I stayed at the hospital, while Matt went home to look after Lucky(don't worry! He's still here). A couple hours later, Lexi woke up. "Mommy". "Yeah sweetie". "Am I going to be different than the other kids". I looked at her with a sad look. "Yes baby. You'll have to be extra careful in the future. I don't want you to get hurt". I leaned over and kissed her forehead. "One more thing". "What's up sweetie". "Why do you have marks on your arms". I looked at her with a quizzical look. Why would my 4 year old wonder about my scars. "I got them before you were born. I had another person in my life who I thought I loved, but he didn't love me back". She looked at me with desperation, like she wanted to know more. "What was his name". I almost didn't tell her, but Peter was an important part of my life. If not for him, I wouldn't have fallen in love with Matt, and she wouldn't be here. "His name was Peter. He was the love of my life. He was really mean to me, and I didn't love him after that. He hurt me, and that's why you're in here today. You were the miracle child I thought I would never have". Lexi, in short, really is the miracle child I thought I would never have. Doctors said that I might never have kids. Then Lexi came along.
