Zak opened the door, none other than Darryl appeared.

Darryl gave an awkward smile.

As he looked at Zak, it appeared he had been crying.

"Oh my goodness.. Are you okay?" Darryl said, worried.

Zak giggled.

"I'm fine, don't worry."  Zak gave Darryl a reassuring smile.

Darryl had a worried expression on his face that softened when Zak smiled.

The two awkwardly stood there, staring at eachother as the air became more tense.

"Oh, you can come in ! Sorry !" Zak said, moving out of the way to let the brunette enter.

Darryl giggled at this gesture and entered the house.

It was quite large, considering it was just Zak and Rocco. But, it was cozy and comforting.

Having a warm scent of vanilla mixed with lavender. Mostly hints of blue around the house.

Zak seemed to like warm colors, a light tealish blue, creme white and a medium dark grey color.

Darryl looked around the apartment more as Zak was preparing something in the kitchen.

Framed pictures of his family and friends on the walls.

Including... A picture of everyone on the trip, and the two pictures of Darryl and Zak.

Darryl couldn't help but smile at this.

Still looking around he sees some hints of his online persona 'Skeppy' hinted around the living room. Including fan gifts and paintings.

Darryl adored these, he adored this whole house.

It just screamed Zak, the person he fell in love with.

The person who he couldn't imagine being without.

He adored Zak.

As Darryl was looking around Zak noticed.

His lips couldn't help but form a small smile at how Darryl was intrigued by his decor.

"I got us Vanilla ice cream !"  Zak smiled.

"Oh sorry !"  Darryl snaps out of his thoughts and heads the kitchen.

The two sit and have a moment of silence as they begin eating their ice cream.

The air grew thick with suspense.

Both trying to figure out what to say, how to say it, and who's going to bring it up first.

Both were flustered with nervousness, trying to avoid eye contact.

Zak speaks up first.

"Darryl, I love you so so much. I love your personality, the way you're genuinely the sweetest and nicest person to everyone. How selfless you are and just how you see the world. You see the good in everyone and I admire that about you. I love your smile and laugh. The way you get frustrated whenever I tease you, how you can always make me smile and how you were the first person to ever push me out of my comfort zone and open up. I know this sounds cheesy but, I genuinely want you to feel loved ...!"

Darryl was in shock. His feelings became even clearer as Zak finished.

"Zak..-"

"to feel loved, just not by me."

Darryl froze.

"...what?"

"I am selfish, the reason for me kissing you was the idea of being loved by someone. I realized I would've taken anyone if it meant I could finally have that commitment I'm afraid of. I just... I can't hurt you. You mean the world to me and I-.."

Zak was cutoff by Darryl.

"No, N-No, No... I just... Tell me what I can do to make a change, please.. Just tell me what it is and I'll do it..!"

"Darryl.. That's not what I-.."

"No Zak... You make me happy, we make eachother happy, I can't risk this relationship please.. ever since I met you, you've opened my eyes to see so many things. You brought color to my world. I promise we can make this work.. please. I can't- I-I... I love you...so much.."
"I was so fascinated by you because of how quiet you were, how different you are online, how you say so much but so little, i got to know you and realize you're one of the best people I've ever met."

"Darryl, please.."

Zak got up to comfort Darryl.

As much as he loved the way Darryl saw him, he realized... George was right.

Zak loved Darryl, just not the way Darryl loved him.

Maybe it wasn't platonic at certain times but... He loved a part of Darryl, his affection. Although, it wasn't fully him.

'I'm sorry, I just don't feel the same way'

As Darryl melted into Zak's comfort it began to hit him.

The warm scent of vanilla, that sense of reliability and trust.

The passion and relief.

The thought and effort.

That warm feeling that Zak brought him, had faded.

Maybe he was being overdramatic that Zak didn't feel the same way, but the thought that he could lose this feeling made him miserable.

A feeling of regret.

Darryl soon left, walking home with no emotion at all.

He was overthinking.

Why. How. What.

Zak and Him made a conclusion. That they, would take a break. They didn't say how long it would be.

Darryl felt empty, like a part of him had just vanished.

All of those significant moments, the meanings, the feelings, every single one of them, became unraveled and the strings snapped.

Love hurts.

Love brings the feeling that you can overcome anything with the right person.

Without it, you feel lost, alone, stressed.

It brings passion, affection, care, energy, trust, and happiness.

It gives you a will to live.

Darryl won't ever find someone like Zak again.

Zak won't ever find someone like Darryl again.

That sudden euphoria they got, that sudden will to embrace a happier lifestyle is gone.

Darryl was truly in love with Zak, it started with his admiration. He wanted to be with him. Despite his commitment issues.

Zak was in love with a part of Darryl, platonically. He liked the idea of love and what it brings to him. Although, sometimes those feelings were real.

Love is wonderous, without it we're..

Vanilla.
