We began walking into the night, my house behind us and letting the ground take us on. "So," I stuttered. "How exactly did U get there." Alex asked, breaking the awkward tension. "Well once I was kicked out I didn't actually run away too far. I stayed somewhat in the town square, sleeping behind peddler carts and stealing the food at night, then-" she said in a low voice but I interrupted,"Wait you've been doing this for EIGHT YEARS?!" She sighed and said,"Just let me finish, I've been doing that for maybe 5 years or so, but then something strange happened. I kept getting these weird visions and this guy kept saying he'd help me get out of this mess. I asked for an explanation, why he even wanted to help me. I am useless I haven't been to school since I was six, and I'm fourteen now. Anyways, the guy in my visions kept saying for me to meet him at this house, and he'd explain that I was this special kind. That I could help takeover the world. And yeah, I had a feeling that either I was loosing it, or this dude was. I pretty much came here for a good show." She chuckled at her own remark. Alex and I exchanged glances. How were we supposed to help her out of this giant grave she had just dug for herself. How are we supposed to explain this mess?

Before Alex and I could explain anything to her, a car rolled down the street. She quickly grabbed our hands and pulled us behind a trash bin.
"What are we doing?" Alex whispered.
"Well, genius, imagine you see three kids walking around in the middle of the night with no parents. Looks kinda creepy doesn't it?"
Even in the darkness, I could see Alex blush.
Something he rarely does.
After the car had driven away, Alex led us to his house. He turned the door knob of the quiet house and we all slipped inside. Despite the fact that we were alone and no one was in Alex's house, we tiptoed around and flinched at noises. I sat down awkwardly on the leather couch, not really knowing what to do. Alex sat down in a chair and El came, and sat down on the floor.
We sat in silence trying to think of something to do or say.
So, kind of creepily, I watched.
I looked at a scruffy girl with long hair and ripped jeans, a boy with honey blond hair that kept falling over his eyes, and myself in the reflection of the mirror.
A boy with dark hair and olive skin, long limbs and golden eyes.
Always the golden eyes.
That brought me back to the topic.
"So," I coughed."Elaina-"
"El please, Jon."
"Oh okay, how-how did you get kicked out?" I asked.
She gave me a gentle smile an began talking.
"When we had just came back from school Jon, holding hands and skipping down the side walk-while I skipped you kept saying I was going to fall-I asked you about your eyes. I guess tiny old El had always been jealous that her brother had these cool mystical eyes, while I had brown ones. You said you didn't know why. Unfortuanetley, I asked you the question as soon as we walked inside our house, so mom and dad heard. Well actually, I'm not allowed to call them mom and dad anymore, according to them. So, they sent you upstairs while they lectured me about how I was not allowed to ask anyone or you that question. So of course, being me, I investigated. I found all these journals and diaries by a man named Fredrick, and I learned all about this gene. And then one day, I read about what the eye could do. I panicked, Jon. I began talking and asking our parents what to do. I was so horrified. And then they told me I was a 'flawed' child with a big imagination, and they kicked me out. I was SIX. But I kept going... They didn't know I saved those journals. Then one night, on my own, I had... A vision? A man who looked exactly like Fredrick from the pictures told me all about how I could help him take over the world with my eyes. That's when I noticed I had golden eyes. Well, sort of. Then I became even more interested. So all these years.. I've been learning as much as possible, asking questions, getting ANSWERS, but always missing you. And then sadly, I forgot about you. But now that I'm here, I'm going to help. I know what this power can do Jon, and it's not good."
She took a deep breath and looked at both of us.
I stared at Alex who had still not taken his gaze off of El.
"Ehem." I coughed.
Alex shook his head and looked at me.
"My only question is," El spoke up,"are you ready to help?"
