We settled inside Alex's house, and El and I laid on the couch, exhausted from training. Alex still looked energized, peering down at us saying,"You guys want some pasta? I know I'm hungry." We both nodded eagerly, and he scurried off into the kitchen. While I was trying to compile my thoughts on how I was gonna face Fredrick, El took out her headphones and snickered at me. "What?" I asked, sitting up. "You love Alex." She said with a smirk. I jumped back in surprise and whisper-shouted,"SHUSH!" She just grinned, but I said,"HOW DID YOU KNOW?!" She shrugged and said,"It's very obvious, plus you look amazed at every single thing he does, and your the only one who laughs at his clever jokes." I rolled my eyes and said,"Yeah whatever, it doesn't matter, he likes you anyways." Her jaw dropped, then she shook her head in disapproval,"Jon, he just seems interested in me, plus you should see the worried look in his eyes when he knows your in trouble. He talks about you a lot too." I blushed, but wasn't extremely convinced. I fiddled with my hands nervously and said,"How am I gonna face Fredrick?" "With pride and integrity." Alex's voice chirped as he set down the steaming plate of pasta, in front of our hungry eyes.

I faked a nervous smile and nodded, but my insides had turned to jelly from nervousness.
"Okay, what's our next step?" Al asked.
"Okay, we've trained, but now we need to focus on the gene. How to destroy it." El said.
I leaned back and began to think. We needed information on the gene... Who would have-
"Maya!" I gasped, sitting bolt upright.
"What?" They both said in unison.
"Yanno, the girl from my vision, the one who was the first to bring the gene into the family name. She studied the gene for a living, who would know more?"
El stood up and began pacing.
"Good idea, now let me think..." She trailed off.
"Wait isn't she dead?" Alex asked in confusion. "Well genius, Fredrick's army is made up of dead people, including him so we can obviously get to her." El said, rolling her eyes.
"That's dangerous," Alex muttered.
"Shut it," she snapped, but she gave him a small smile, causing him to blush.
Which just proved my point that Alex liked El.
I gave El an I-told-you-so look and her smile lightly faltered.
She began pacing again and suddenly stopped.
"She is the main power source of the gene. She knows all about it. Who needs that knowledge? Who needs the power of the gene more than anyone?" El raised her eyebrows at us.
"Fredrick," Alex said softly.
"Bingo."
"So," I spoke up."To get to Maya, we need Fredrick's help?"
"Exactly," El said."We need to join the army."
"We need to go over to the Golden Side."
