I slightly jogged ahead of the boys through the leafy green, getting lost in my surroundings. I breathed in the scent of nature, enjoying the sound of a nearby rushing lake.

I ran a bit faster, till I was to far ahead for the boys to see me. Then, I was suddenly hit by a wave of deja vu. I had a distinct memory of running by the same trees, sitting on that large boulder, and crying.

OOh.

The night I was "Exiled" I had run through this same forest, trying to put as much distance between me and the awful house I was raised in. Well, partially raised.

"El?" Jon placed his hand on my shoulder, waking me out of my daze.

"What? Oh, yeah," I mumbled, clearing my throat.

"What are we supposed to do?" Alex asked, his eyebrows furrowed, trying to piece together Fredrick's mission and the forest.

"We have to kill... an animal. That's the only way we could get a heart without harming anyone." I scanned the forest, hoping to see some type of animal. In the corner of my eye, I saw Alex nod and do the same, but Jon had an exasperated look on his face.

"'Without harming anyone'?" He finger quoted.

"What?"

"El, killing an innocent animal is the same as harming it. Why aren't we treating animals with the same respect?"

"Jon, it's just like a bird, or something that won't effect the environment too much." Alex coaxed.

"WHAT. IS. WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. An animal life is just as equal as ours!"

"WHoa Jon, calm down, we just need a heart, we are NOT trying to be all eco friendly here," I said, frankly annoyed with my little brother.

He shot me an incredulous look before storming off in another direction. I looked at Alex.

"Can you believe him?" I rolled my eyes as I said this, but Alex wasn't paying attention. He was looking worriedly at the path Jon had just taken, nervously clenching and unclenching his fist.

"Alex, what's wrong?"

"I just, what if something happens to him? He could get hurt," he said in a panicked tone.

"He'll be fine, he's probably off hugging a tree or something," I said with an annoyed attitude. Since when did Alex care about Jon this much?

"I-I'm gonna go after him, I don't want him getting hurt," he said in a rushed voice.

"Alex stop. He will be fine!"

"But I don't want him getting hurt!" He screamed.

"He's survived this long, I'm pretty sure he can survive a walk in the park!"

"But I just, I don't know, I-"

"Why do you care so much any way?!" I yelled.

"Because I-" he stopped himself. "I-I don't know, okay, I'm just gonna go find Jon." He ran off, while stood there, my eyebrow raised.

What just happened?
