Thousands of televisions were pinned to the walls, but all heard was static noise. "Ugh!" Fred groaned. He clicked the remote furiously at the TVs, punching ever button and hitting the remote against the wall. Everyone figures that villains are always angry about something or have some sort of anger issues, but it's unordinary to see a villain having a little tantrum. Finally the static disappeared and Fred's little freak out stopped. I squinted at the screen and saw two adults sitting at a dinner table. I saw an older boy prancing around the room with a sword, a much older girl with her nose in a book, and the sweet sound of a girl playing a violin. Wait a second, is that... Is that my family? I turned to El, with the look in her eyes I had a feeling she knew that this was her family too. I turned to Fredrick who twiddled a dagger around in his hands, what was his plan?
"You see, while you have proved yourselves by bringing me that delicious heart.." My stomach flipped at what he just implied. He ate it.
Cue violent throwing up now.
"I need to see you in action. I was not able to see you kill the innocent person, so this is next."
"You have to kill your family."
I stared in shock. Killing a wild beast that nearly killed me was one thing, killing Wilters?
While Fred watched?
There was no way out of it.
I thought of every horrible thing my family did to me, all the teasing and constant disapproval, the one time my dad actually slapped me..
But none of the memories could ever give me the power to kill one of them. But now, I didn't have a choice. For El it would be much simpler, I'm guessing, since she had only lived with them for a few years.
But looking over at her, and seeing the tears in her eyes told me otherwise. She didn't want to do this either.
"Now, now, not all of the Wilters, maybe one or two."
I grit my teeth and tried not to punch in Fredrick's transparent face. A life was a life, not something you could just toss around in numbers.
"C'mon Jonny, remember all those awful things they did to you?" His voice sauntered around the room.
Then, one by one, each TV lit up with a video.
I peered at one, and saw a little boy with dark hair and bright gold eyes, quietly talking to himself in a room. He was lying on a bed, playing with his fingers, mumbling incoherent words. Suddenly, his bedroom door was ripped open, and the boy's father came in. His dad said something with wild gesticulations, and the boy's eyes filled with tears. His dad yelled more and more until the tiny 8 year old couldn't take it, so he curled up in a ball and covered his ears, trying to block out the violent noise.
The dad threw his hands up in the air and stormed out, slamming the door behind him. The boy burst into tears, holding himself, all alone.
I was me.
I vividly remembered that night, it was the first time my dad ever said I couldn't see Alex because it was wrong for me to be so obsessed with him.
More and more screens flickered, showing more and more memories of me. I was yelled at, pushed and shoved, and hurt by my family. Each screen made me relive the memory, and tears boiled in my eyes.
I really hated my family.
"See Jon, just because you were different, look how they treated you! Think of the ways you can take revenge on them," Fred said quietly.
I stared on at the TV screens, feeling something tighten in my chest.
I really, really hated them.
But could I kill them?
